Kyle Busch did what he needed to do to maintain his long-standing impressive run in the Truck Series as he won his first race of the season, extending his one win per season streak to ten years. However, someone wasn’t happy with Busch winning.

That someone was Zane Smith who finished second.

Now, before you think that anyone who finishes second would obviously dislike the guy they lost to. But Smith particularly didn’t like that he finished second to the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

“Man I just, I hate finishing second, especially to him (Kyle Busch),” he said on the front stretch. “But I just feel like racing at the 18, I don’t know, he got too far out front and I think that last lap was the fastest lap of the race so for me.”

“I wish I was a little bit closer so I could have a shot at him.”

In a post-race interview, Kyle Busch described how winning at Sonoma after the fact that Trucks haven’t raced at the track since 1998, motivated him even more. And to do so, “feels good,” Busch said.

“I wanted to do it just for the history and the nostalgia of the Truck Series in California, it being born in Bakersfield and just always racing here (at Sonoma). … I love that aspect of it,” he added.

Speaking about his now decade-old winning streak in the series, Busch reflected back on the last time he didn’t win a race inside a truck.

“I look back on the missed year of 2012, where I didn’t get a win,” Busch said. “I think we finished second like six times that year or something stupid. That was frustrating. That’s more bitter than this one (potentially) not winning, but it’s good to be able to score a win.”
