If you thought that Kyle Busch is the ‘Candyman’ of NASCAR, think again. Not because he’s no longer sponsored by M&M’s. No. It’s because Dale Earnhardt Jr. deserves that title more. Junior, who is one of the most relatable and un-celebrity-like celebrities in NASCAR, recently spoke at length about his love for candy, and candies which invoke a feeling of nostalgia.

He was so passionate about this subject that when his co-host Mike Davis raised a suggestion, the Hall of Famer got irritated and compared him to NASCAR.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shares his love for candy

In a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download, Junior asked his co-host about the types of candy which were like “nostalgic treat” for them. He claimed for him, it was shredded beef jerky.

“Whenever I see that in a store, I still grab a can, whole can goes in, all at once. I mean, it’s one of those things,” he added. After that, Mike Davis wondered if Junior remembers candy cigarettes. “I don’t know if the youth of America are still smoking candy cigarettes,” Davis said. “I know right, they were so good though,” Earnhardt added.

The JR Motorsports co-owner then threw in the name of Gator Gum onto the table, and took up the case for it as he claimed it to be “the best 15 seconds of gum you’re ever gonna chew.” “But then after 15 seconds in, it turns to concrete, so you gotta spit it out pretty quick or it’s gonna be a permanent fixture in your mouth. That becomes part of your teeth,” he described.

After that, he repeated his initial question once again, if the rest have a nostalgic candy.

“I don’t know that I had a go-to candy. I know that I ate a lot of it, all of it,” Davis responded, which was followed by someone namedropping Razzles gum, which provoked Junior to take its case and explain why they were so good.

The conversation then touched upon all kinds of gums, and fruit roll-ups, and then landed on pop rocks, something which Earnhardt wasn’t a big fan of.

“Pop rocks? I didn’t like them. I think the stigma around pop rocks and drinking soda and your belly exploding is bulls**t. But when I was a little kid, everybody was like, ‘Oh man, if you eat those and you drink some soda, your belly will explode,'” he explained.

After that, Davis tried to conclude the nostalgic candy conversation as he suggested this should be a social media discussion, which made Junior irritated.

“It doesn’t have to be candy. I’ve mentioned things that aren’t candy. Come on man, why are you putting us in a box? You’re like NASCAR, throwing them yellows putting them drivers in a box,” he ranted.

But then, hilariously, he clarified the nature of his statement.

“I’m just kidding NASCAR. NASCAR? I’m kidding,” Earnhardt said. “Jokes buddy.”
