Safe to say, Bubba Wallace hasn’t had the best of campaigns so far this season. With four DNFs to his name, the 23XI Racing driver is crawling his way up the ladder. While it looked like he was about to seal an amazing win at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, things went south after a last-minute tussle involving Kyle Busch. However, rather than starting any blame game or controversies, Wallace made an honest admission.

Things didn’t look well with the Alabama-born driver after his early race exit at The Circuit of The Americas. However, Wallace has shown great character as he did well both at Bristol and Martinsville. In fact, he was on the verge to make it even better at Talladega but lost the grip at the very end.

A year and a half has passed since Bubba Wallace registered his first-ever NASCAR Cup Series win. Amazingly, it came at Talladega in October 2021 with the Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing. The 29-year-old had the opportunity to repeat the feat on Sunday. Despite him coming very close, things took a wild turn in the final lap.

Both Ryan Blaney and Wallace have been good friends off the track but were strongly contesting with each other on the weekend. Interestingly, the latter had sidestepped Kyle Busch in the deciding overtime. Ultimately, it was Blaney who tried to make a pass to the outside line through Turns 1 and 2.

However, Wallace made multiple blocks to resist the Team Penske driver. Unfortunately, after undergoing several contacts, the #23 car turned into the outside retaining wall. In the process, Blaney’s progress was also hampered, allowing Busch to his second victory of the 2023 campaign.

Definitely, the Richard Childress Racing driver had a bit of luck over there. At the same time, Wallace ran out of luck at the most crucial stage. However, contrary to the expectations of many, he chinned up and admitted his role in the mishap.

Speaking after the race, Wallace said, “The way we were shoving and pushing, we were kind of getting each other out of whack and sort of moving the momentum forward. And then when I got the move, it was all about defending, and you can’t let your guard down for one second, or you end up in (the infield care center).”

More importantly, he did not blame Blaney even a bit for the events that took place. In fact, he was happy to have him behind his car at the final stage. Wallace said, “When I saw the No. 12, I was pumped. We work well together, obviously, every speedway race, and that’s just the way it goes. Not the No. 12’s fault at all.”
