Throwing champagne or any sort of drink at someone after the race is considered a celebration. However, Bubba Wallace wasn’t in the mood for any celebration when he threw water on Alex Bowman.
The incident took place during the NASCAR playoffs at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2019.
The after math of the Bank of America Roval 400 race saw Bubba Wallace throw water on Alex Bowman as the former became visibly upset over the action of the latter.

After a tough battle to finish second, Bowman was receiving medical treatment when Wallace arrived at the scene to confront the #88 car driver.
Talking about the incident, Kyle Petty stated, “I think we have to go back to the chicane move for Alex, basically spun Bubba out.”
“And Bubba didn’t appreciate it. And he came over.”
“I mean you can’t hit a man when he’s sitting on the ground, so he threw water on him. I think that’s what you do.”

“There’s gonna be tempers in races like this.”
Explaining the race incident, he went on to add, “You see here, Alex runs up to him. Bubba is a little bit slower at this of time. He pops him a couple of times and then is the car start off the corner. He just hopes he didn’t turn him the wrong way.”
“I mean when you see it from this angle and listen, this is my dad’s car and I don’t defend this move at all,” Petty further stated.
Alex Bowman has been sick all weekend and that last red flag just dehydrated him, especially when he didn't get a bottle of water.

Kyle Petty even defended Bubba Wallace and his action. Petty justified that it was natural for a driver to be angry and get mad under such circumstances. He further stated, “I don’t defend this move at all, because it almost looks like he turned left on him a little bit, spinning him off the racer.”
“So Bubba had a right to be mad.”
What happened between Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman after the incident?
After the incident, Bubba Wallace opened up. He told the media, “He had a fast car and he just runs over us.”

“Shoot us through the chicane, and then we get a penalty for it.”
Alex Bowman also shared his take on the incident, “I don’t know if he was mad about the first lap or what, but obviously that was just a mistake.”

As for the disciplinary action against Bubba Wallace, then NASCAR executive VP, and chief racing development officer, Steve O’Donnell had some serious talks with the driver of car #43.
