Did AM Racing make a huge mistake by sidelining Hailie Deegan for Joey Logano at Darlington?

Although Hailie Deegan is off the sport currently, she is not off the headlines. AM Racing, her previous Xfinity Series team, is gearing up to return this weekend with Deegan’s former replacement. Yes, that’s right. Joey Logano would wield her ride again.

And the No. 15 Ford will be splashed in snazzy colors under a cool sponsor for the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 race. But after Logano’s average run on his previous AM Racing stint, fans are predicting a lot of bad luck for him this time as well.

What seems like a series of blows against Hailie Deegan, AM Racing, is yet again bringing out her ride in her absence. In early July, the young Xfinity Series team parted ways with her in a harsh manner. The team statement seemed to focus wholeheartedly on Joey Logano, taking the No. 15 ride for the Chicago Street Race. Yet the two-time Cup Series winner did not fare so well – he barely scratched the top 20 for most of the race. Only towards the end did Logano finally crack the top ten, finishing 8th.

After that not-so-impressive outing, Deegan’s team was again back with her replacement. Panini America, NASCAR’s official trading card partner, will sponsor the No. 15 ride that Logano would wield at Darlington Raceway. AM Racing updated this news on X, rubbing further salt in Hailie Deegan’s wounds. “The Champ is Back 😎 @joeylogano will be rocking this @PaniniAmerica Prism Paint Scheme 🎨 on board the No. 15 @FordPerformance Mustang this weekend @TooToughToTame for some @XfinityRacing on Saturday!”

Have an interesting take?

Logano, a member of Panini’s athlete roster since 2019 and also the brand ambassador, is eager for this pursuit. The Team Penske driver has won both in Cup and Xfinity at Darlington. “Darlington is a very challenging racetrack, yet it’s a fun one to battle on, as it has an older surface. For the majority of the time, you’re racing just inches from the wall. The extra seat time on an important race weekend is always an added bonus and I’m pumped Panini will be the primary with me on Saturday.” However, even though Logano is pumped, fans are not so hopeful about this new venture.

Since rumors began to circulate about Hailie Deegan’s ejection, all fingers pointed at her. She never cracked the top ten in her rookie Xfinity stint and was last in points. However, after AM Racing let her go, team insiders started speaking up about inherent faults within the team. Deegan was not the only one to face multiple DNFs. For example, Brett Moffitt faced wrecks in his AM Racing stint last year in Nashville. So fans poured bad luck into Panini’s new venture: “Hell yeah, another dnf lined up.” Another fan took a harsh jibe at the bright colors, which might be a recipe for disaster. “Easier for the tow truck driver to spot.”

People are also not at all confident about Joey Logano’s second outing with the same team. Despite Logano’s stellar Darlington presence earlier, hopes run low. The 30-time Xfinity winner did not impress at the Chicago Street Race, and fans are predicting a bad outcome for him. Somebody commented: “37th and in a wreck 101 laps in is my prediction.” Another fan insinuated Joey Logano falling prey to AM Racing’s faults. “Probably have a mechanical failure before halfway.”

Some people voiced their support for Hailie Deegan, taking this opportunity to bash AM Racing. The ARCA star had a lot of scope to improve himself, as veterans like Kenny Wallace agreed. So one fan jeered at the team, hoping for a wreck for Logano. “Sorry but I hope he crashes early or has car trouble. Y’all did [Hailie] Deegan dirty.” Another fan unequivocally voiced their support for Deegan: “Hailie Deegan was NOT the problem with your company!”

Evidently, AM Racing is not drumming up particularly a lot of enthusiasm for its Darlington venture. Hailie Deegan’s departure still hangs over them like a shadow. Let us hope that Deegan finds her racing path soon!
