Alongside Daniel Suarez’s brilliant finish at the Cup race, the Xfinity Race also unfolded with unique aspects at Atlanta. Austin Hill took home the checkered flag at NASCAR’s second-tier series race. But the race was animated by some concerns. Drivers faced a fuel dilemma after Ryan Seig ran out of fuel on the apron of the track. Parker Kligerman was also involved.
Kligerman entered the 2024 season under Big Machine Racing. He has made 23 starts in the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro and, 12 top-10 finishes and five top-fives in the same car. But at the recent Atlanta race, he ran into some troubles.

Parker Kligerman does double duty of driving full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and broadcasting for NBC Sports. After a difficult Xfinity race at Atlanta, he is currently reflecting on what transpired on the track.
In a recent episode of ‘The Money Lap’, Parker Kligerman spilled the beans on the inside out of the Atlanta race, where he finished 19th place. At first, he delved into some technical aspects.
“I felt like being very aggressive..in terms of island hopping and trying to make the bottom work. It just wouldn’t, there was too much handling involved. There was a huge tailwind down the backstretch…it was like a 20 or 30-mile prior tailwind. Those two things combined meant that top just had such dominance…so you had to slot in and try to run in a line and island-hop your way forward, which I successfully did once or twice, but in stage 2 was not successful in accomplishing.”
Then he broached the element that fans were oblivious to during the race. “But the third run, we ran in a single file which was really boring for the fans. There was a lot more going on for the drivers…we were trying to save fuel.”
The fuel strategy worked for Austin Hill, but for Parker Kligerman and others, it did not pan out as they expected. “…I saved fuel the entire time. 50% throttle, the entire time, knowing that this could be a fuel mileage event, if it went green all the way to the end…then we ran 6 out of caution and all started running out of fuel. Still Austin Hill got it. You know how much fuel I had?…We had just under a gallon left.”

On the final green flag stage, a lot of drivers, including Parker Kligerman, stayed out on the track. But after the overtime restart, he ran out of fuel alongside Jesse Love and Justin Allgaier. Austin Hill, on the other hand, managed to save enough fuel earlier to lead the final two laps to victory.
