The World Wide Technology Raceway has been on the NASCAR calendar since 1997. However, it has only catered to the Xfinity and Truck Series. Now the speedway is preparing for its Cup Series debut on June 5th 2022. Ever since the announcement, the track authorities have been hard at work with a multi-year renovation effort.

WWT Raceway owner and CEO Curtis Francois said, “The response since the announcement has been very, very strong. The power of the NASCAR Cup Series race can’t be underestimated and the St. Louis region is really embracing it. We’re all preparing to host a world-class event.”

Francois revealed that he has invested nearly $50 million in renovating the WWT Raceway. However, he feels that it is not enough, and has added another $40 million to improve the infrastructure. According to the CEO, work began as soon as the announcement of the WWT’s inclusion, dropped. Of course, the process is expected to take place in phases and fully wrap up by early 2025.

How will the World Wide Technology Raceway be ready for NASCAR?

As per early reports, the track authorities first tackled the infield and hospitality tower. Planned upgrades include new camping sites, driver and team owner area updates and improving racetrack safety. Meanwhile, the venue’s hospitality suite tower will receive a suite interior facelift, including a new rooftop and improved VIP entrance.

Francois continued, “That’s one thing we felt was important, that when people come out that they understand that this is world-class entertaining for their companies. We’re really making sure that every place the fan will experience has been looked at and will have been in some way improved to make sure the fan experience is first-class.”

The track owner also revealed that there are plans to improve concession areas. Furthermore, the renovations will also take care of elements like the track’s electric grid. Curtis Francois hopes that the track will attract large crowds for its NASCAR Cup Series debut. Of course, the Cup drivers will also have their Truck Series counterparts running on the same weekend. One thing is for sure, everyone will be excited and cannot wait for 2022.
