Hulk Hogan backing Landon Cassill—how much do big names influence success in sports?

In the world of NASCAR, stories of perseverance and heart often steal the spotlight, and Mason Massey’s journey is one for the ages. Recently, Massey drove the WWE G.O.A.T.’s Hulk Hogan-sponsored Xfinity car, teaming up with SS Greenlight Racing in collaboration with Fan-Controlled Sports and EssentiallySports’ Lucky Dog on Track.

Hulk Hogan’s new venture, Real American Beer, sponsored the car, and Massey’s career took an exhilarating turn as he piloted the Fan-Controlled Sports car, with fans calling the shots for pit-stop decisions, adding a unique twist to his racing saga. Now, Michael McCarthy, aka “Large Barstool” from Barstool Sports, has reminisced about a race from Massey’s early days, highlighting the early signs of greatness that foreshadowed his promising future.

How does the collaboration with Hulk Hogan’s Real American Beer propel Massey to stardom?

Mason Massey, the 26-year-old NASCAR driver, comes with a story that’ll warm your heart and has been turning heads in the racing world. His journey started when he was just 11, absolutely tearing up the track at Atlanta Motor Speedway, his home turf.

But here’s where it gets truly inspiring. Despite his incredible skill behind the wheel, Mason faced a personal challenge with a severe stutter. When he won the race, the idea of speaking over the loudspeaker was overwhelming for him. In a move that’s nothing short of heroic, Mason Massey chose to step back and let another driver take the spotlight, even though he had to settle for second place. It’s this blend of humility and talent that makes Mason Massey’s story so unforgettable.

As Large Barstool explained it on the recent episode of Barstool Sports’ ‘Nobody is Cooler’ segment on Instagram, he said, “When he was only 11 years old, he was dominating a Legend Series race at his home track, Atlanta Motor Speedway. He remembered that the winner would have to go over the loudspeaker and say something like a little speech after they won. So instead of being a couple of car lengths ahead, he pulls back and lets somebody else take the checkered flag, and he takes second because he was so uncomfortable about his stutter.”

Adding on to Massey’s achievements, Large Barstool further appreciated the Fan Controlled Sports driver, saying, “That’s an adorable story. It makes me feel a bit sad that an 11-year-old had to do that. You fast forward, and this kid gets to ride in the Xfinity race, but look at the f**king paint scheme that he had. He drove the “American Hero” number 14 Ford with Hulk Hogan’s Real American Beer Company. Its left rear corner panel has a picture of Hulk Hogan holding an American flag. I don’t know; I just think that’s kind of cool. The kid’s got a great backstory; he’s an accomplished driver, and now he’s rocking the whole “Hulk Hogan Mobile. So nobody’s cooler as far as I’m concerned.”

Sponsorships make a huge impact! As Barstool pointed out, teaming up with Real American Beer has really helped Mason Massey make a name for himself in the Xfinity Series, even though he’s primarily a full-time driver in the Truck Series, piloting the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports.

At the Pocono event, as EssentiallySports’ on-ground team reported, after retiring early from the race, he secured P29, and although it was not one of the best results, driving for Hulk Hogan’s team got him the spotlight he deserved. This might make you wonder: how did Massey land himself the deal with Hogan’s latest venture? And that’s exactly what he will be taking a look at.

Mason Massey’s collaboration with Real American Beer & Fan Controlled Sports

The story begins with EssentiallySports’ Lucky Dog on Track (LDOT), teaming up with Hulk Hogan’s Real American Beer and FanControlled Sports for a high-impact activation at the Pocono Xfinity Race. FanControlled Sports, known for giving fans a direct role in racing decisions, played a crucial role in this partnership, giving fans a choice to make pit-stop decisions.

Fans have the power to vote for their favorite driver to take the wheel of the #14 Ford Mustang, which would be sponsored by Real American Beer.

The outcome? Mason Massey emerged as the fan-voted driver, a testament to his growing popularity and the compelling nature of his personal story. The partnership with Real American Beer added another layer of excitement, as Hulk Hogan himself announced, that the collaboration was not just about sponsorship but about creating an immersive experience for fans.

On July 13, 2024, at the Pocono Xfinity Race, the new partnership took center stage, as captured by EssentiallySports’ on-ground team.

This was a huge step for the driver, as he is now ready to take on more challenges and hopefully find a full-time spot in Xfinity. That being said, he has a long way to go, as his results in the Truck series are sub-par for the Xfinity promotion. Looking at his performance, do you think, with a full-time sponsorship, he is ready for the Xfinity series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
