Their historic rivalry was marked by unforgettable moments, including classic matches, compelling promos, and memorable storylines. One of the standout moments was their Steel Cage Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade in 1996, a match that is etched in wrestling history as an absolute classic.

During the ‘Dale Jr. Download’ podcast, Dale Jr. inquired about how Cody Rhodes perceived his father’s legacy on social media. Cody shared that when he was born, Dusty was already 39 years old and semi-retired from his wrestling career, taking on the role of a manager. However, Cody also revealed that there was one particular aspect that truly amazed him.

Cody said, “The real way I educated myself was exactly as you said, his blockbuster video had in the south we had wrestling section and is WWF and then there’s WCW stuff and I was watching Current WCW but I need to go back NWA territory stuff whatever remained of it and see why he was this luminary figure and it blew me away. I mean often the blood but then just, even at the young age I thought ‘I’m really proud of him.’”

“That was just mind-blowing to me to see Greensboro Colesium losing their mind, just blew my mind, just every match I watch him and Flair you know all the big paper views, Flair Flair Flair and that was such differently jucks the pose differently one another, Oh my gosh, that was really nice,” Cody added.

As the conversation shifted towards Ric Flair, Dale Earnhardt Jr. provided his perspective on the iconic rivalry and shared intriguing insights into wrestling broadcasts.

Indeed, wrestling promos play a crucial role in building anticipation and excitement for matches and events. These segments allow wrestlers, managers, or other personalities to connect with the audience, advance storylines, and create a buzz around upcoming fights.

Promos are often filled with passion, charisma, and dramatic storytelling, making them an integral part of the wrestling experience. They are the verbal battles that fuel the rivalries and add an extra layer of entertainment to the sport.

Regarding the promos, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said, “I felt like in the 80s like shooting promos and stuffs your dad and Flair and those guys like that was the whole show on Saturday morning in front of a microphone, a couple of wrestling matches but really just them talking.”

“When you look back they kinda created the promo the value the promo, right and the ability then it became like Who would do the better and your dad was one of the best, right? So, I think that I find, that always talking about the toughest part of the broadcast on races that second to live TV where we’re actually on the screen and so the promo how hard is promo vs. actual part of the Job? The promo to me looks like the most important moment, right?” Dale Jr. concluded.
