This is NOT a good time to be Sheldon Creed. The Xfinity Series driver, in his last season with Richard Childress Racing, has been heavily under fire from his own team since the events in Martinsville on Saturday. Largely being blamed for wrecking his teammate Austin Hill, Creed has faced the most seething remarks from his boss, Richard Childress.
With the racing community shocked over the angst that Mr Childress had for his own driver, the crew of the podcast “Door, Bumper, Clear” discussed the validity of his words. Joining them on the table was veteran journalist Jeff Gluck.

Both Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill needed the win in the final moments of the Dead On Tools 250. Getting into the final lap, both the drivers were side by side on the front end of the grid. As they fought through the backstretch, the duo made contact and Creed moved ahead in turn 3, but couldn’t do so into turn 4. Eventually, Hill shoved his #21 car into Creed. Further contact from behind wrecked him into the wall, ending his day.
JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier took Hill’s spot on the front and cruised past Creed very narrowly to take the win. Watching his team crumble right in front of him, Richard Childress said, “I’ve had drivers drive for me before but nobody as stupid as Sheldon Creed. You don’t do that as a team player.” With the crew of the DirtyMo Media podcast taking turns to provide their views on Childress’s, rather harsh comments, Freddie Kraft, the spotter of 23XI Racing star Bubba Wallace, joined in. He was siding with Childress, but not for the reasons one might think.
Kraft said, “I am I’m spot on for Richard’s comments because Sheldon was stupid. What Sheldon should have done was wreck the f*** out of the #21. That’s what he should have done.” Turning against the tide against Creed, the spotter continued, “If you’re gonna move the guy… Sheldon was too nice! We heard comments from Andy Petree saying, you know, ‘You didn’t give him a chance’. He did give him a chance and that was his mistake. […] That was stupid on his part. He gave him a chance to race next to him down the backstretch.”
Creed will be departing Richard Childress Racing at the end of the season. The most significant figures in his current camp are only too pleased with that. With negativity surrounding him from all sides, Jeff Gluck saw sense on the driver’s side.

When Sheldon Creed joined RCR two years back, it was amidst much hype and fanfare. He was expected to shine, but he never really did. Without a single victory lane visit in the last two seasons, the driver will part ways with RCR. His teammate Austin Hill couldn’t wait for that to happen. After the on-track scuffle, he told the press, “I cannot wait for him to get out of RCR. Just cannot wait for him to go over to Joe Gibbs Racing and I don’t have to put up with his sh*t no more.”

While the move to JGR hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the news is expected to be out very soon. Until then, Creed will have the words of Jeff Gluck to comfort him. Putting his thoughts out on the podcast, the renowned journalist was perplexed about what the mistake of Creed was in the final lap sequence. He said, “I watched that because after Austin Hill was so mad and everybody was so mad, I thought, ‘Oh maybe I missed something.’ So I went back and watched the replay. […] He didn’t do anything! What did he do? That’s about as fair as you could ask with a final four spot on the line.”

The 2023 season was Creed’s maiden run in the Xfinity playoffs. After his winless stint with Childress, he will be, as things stand, without a banner. RCR has already lined up their replacement for Creed. Joe Gibbs Racing has two empty seats in the Xfinity for next year, and hopefully, Creed will get one of them.
