It was a pure nightmare for the world of motorsports, as the world gasped and stopped batting its eyelids for a brief period of time as the fire broke out from Romain Grosjean’s No.8 Haas car. This harrowing crash occurred back in 2021 during the Bahrain Grand Prix, and the world is yet to come to terms with that crash.

For Romain Grosjean, it was as if he had been granted a second chance at living from the heavens. He wriggled out from the blazing car after being stuck in the car for 30 seconds without any major harm, apart from sustaining burn injuries on his hand.

To everybody’s horror, the nightmare from Bahrain seemed to repeat itself on the tracks of Knoxville on Saturday during the World of Outlaws race, as the car of Carson Macedo readily caught on fire.

Carson Macedo’s harrowing crash at Knoxville Raceway shakes the world of NASCAR

Crashes and wrecks have been an indispensable part of motor racing. But cars catching fire has been a rare occurrence since the development of the safety protocols in the cars. The blazing car of Roamin Grosjean has been perhaps the most dramatic event in three decades, as the last time a racing car caught fire was back in 1989.

Having said that the crash at Knoxville was nothing less horrific and dramatic than the wreck at Bahrain. The incident involved Jason Johnson Racing driver Carson Macedo, who collided with the outside wall at Turn 3 and 4 of Knoxville Raceway. After losing control, the car flipped out numerous times before a blazing fire broke out from the car.

The race was immediately red-flagged. Other fellow drivers like Brad Sweet, Gio Scelzi, and Spencer Bayston climbed out of their cars and ran towards Carson Macedo and his raging fire. They tried to help Macedo escape from the car but he was unable to do so as Macedo failed to remove the seatbelts. Moreover, Brad Sweet was yelling Macedo’s name as he was knocked out due to the impact.

Fortunately, upon regaining consciousness, Carson Macedo was able to come out of his car and could walk to the ambulance with some assistance.

After the conclusion of the race, Brad Sweet expressed his concerns and was at a loss for words. In an interview with Always Raceday, the driver was asked, “Brad, can you kind of take us through what was going through your head, as you kind of helped extinguish and helped Carson out there?

To this, the driver expressed, “I don’t want to speak on it too much until we kind of get to know more about how Carson’s doing. But so far, it sounds somewhat positive and just happy that we came to the fire crew at Knoxville had all the right equipment and did a good job of extinguishing the flames.”

He added, “It is an unreal moment. You know, from afar, I am sure people are wondering what the heck we are doing there. But it was an extremely talented situation. I said just thought the fire crew did their job and it seems like Carson, hopefully, come out of it all alright.”
