Why do you think NASCAR even thought of applying restrictor plates to the cars? And that too, in just two of all the racetracks that NASCAR organizes its races on? Definitely, there is something uncontrollable about the races that happen at Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway. This is the track where veteran NASCAR driver Bobby Allison crashed back in 1987, giving birth to restrictor plates racing in NASCAR.

Hence, it is normal that a good amount of speculation will arise before of the NASCAR Cup Series playoff unfurls on the 2.66-mile-long tri-oval course. To top it all off, Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch might just place himself on an equal footing with the great Dale Earnhardt by setting a record that only the great intimidator could have pulled.

The latter part of the 2023 season has not been quite great for the #8 team. Kyle Busch now sits at the 12th spot in the driver’s standings, 17 points below the cutline. If he does not win the next race at Talladega, he needs to gain significant stage points to move on to the round of 8.

But if he does win, he will second one to repeat a 1993 record. Kyle Busch won the first race at Talladega this year, which was also his second win of the season. If he wins the second race at Talladega this week and if he gets the titular win, he will be the second driver to have achieved two wins at Talladega and the Championship title, both in the same year.

As Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney battled fiercely for the lead, Kyle Busch capitalized on the second overtime restart and scooted for the win in the Geico 500.

The #8 Richard Childress Racing driver exclaimed, “Sometimes you’ve got to be lucky, you know, and some of these races come down to that. And you have to take them when they come your way, the seas kind of parted there when they went up the race track.”

Reflecting on the time when the field froze due to a caution for the last-lap crash, Kyle Busch explained, “They were trying to push draft, and these cars are just not stable enough to do that.”

“I seen (Wallace) turn a little bit sideways and was like, ‘Get out of the way, just miss it,’ and try to see if I was ahead of (Blaney) by the time it was called,” Busch added.
