The Cup Series is one of the most intense forms of racing on the planet with super competitive drivers battling it out on the tracks. And intense racing is exactly what keeps the spectators hooked till the end. Such aggressive racing is bound to result in some heated moments like the one we witnessed in Richmond this Sunday.

And this time Denny Hamlin is the culprit!

Following this week’s race in Richmond, part-time Cup Series driver JJ Yeley came out to dismiss “silly” Hamlin who’s been “preaching respect,” while he rear-ended his #15 Mustang. The whole NASCAR community seems to be contemplating Hamlin‘s actions as he wrecked Yeley in Stage 1 while trying to get to a better position.

Speaking with Frontstretch’s Michael Massie about being put into the wall by the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, a disappointed Yeley revealed his thoughts.

Early on in the race, Yeley was driving ahead of Hamlin, who, in an effort to gain some momentum and a better position, accelerated on and bumped the #15  Ford Mustang sending it out of control and into the wall.

The Rick Ware Racing driver, who is still chasing the first win in a 17-year-long career, did not shy away from expressing his frustration when asked by the reporter about the incident involving Hamlin. A visibly disappointed Yeley said, “Oh, I mean it’s pretty simple, I mean he just run me over and got me out of the road. I’m assuming he wanted a caution. I mean there was no sun in his eyes.”

Yeley then went on to take a jibe at Hamlin by calling out the hypocrisy of his actions. He said, “For a guy who’s been preaching respect for the last couple of weeks, it seems really silly.”

“In the restart, we’re running too wide, you know, he just got around in a hurry and ran me over. So not much I could do,” he added.

He was particularly disappointed as his crew had worked hard on the car. “I hate it for the sponsors, hate for the guys. This is one of the better cars we’ve had this year, they’ve been working hard on giving me better product, and you know, they did that part.”

As the Joe Gibbs Racing driver bumped Yeley who was in front sending him right to the wall, even the commentary booth felt the intensity saying, “Yeah that was, uh very much on purpose. I don’t know why but, very much so on purpose”

Later on in the race, when the yellow flag was out, Yaley looked like he might seek revenge. Responding to Michael Massie’s observation, Yaley said, “I mean, what’s the point, right? He’s damaged my car; I’m obviously upset. I mean we are not out there playing chicken-and-mouse for me to go out there and destroy his race car.

I doubt that he apologized. I doubt that he really even cares.”

While Denny is known for his honest approach to the game, such incidents really put a shadow over his credibility.
