Kyle Larson & HMS Are Planning to Return to Indy 500 Next Year. But Should They?

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

William Byron’s rise to the top of NASCAR was a unique one. Unlike most Cup drivers, he honed his driving skills in the virtual world of iRacing, translating his indoor driving skills to burning rubber efficiently on the track. And while his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott opt for dirt racing and snowboarding in their free time, Byron’s hobby is more… brick-based. After pushing 200 mph on the track, Byron unwinds by building with Legos.

And Dale Earnhardt Jr is catching onto that unique hobby. Earlier this year, he was on the verge of losing it to his wife’s disdainful glances. But evidently, that has not worked out. Recently on The Dale Jr Download, the 26-time Cup winner confessed to his piling Lego fortunes. “I bought the Titanic Lego set. We got it started, we had a little update last week. I left it at the house. It’s gonna stay there…I just feel like it’s just gonna stay there. But I bought some more sets.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr pointed fingers at Byron for this obsession, while congratulating him on his CARS Tour success. “I’m blaming Byron for all of this. William Byron, appreciate you…great job in the CARS Tour this past weekend at Carraway – second place finish, awesome job. But he’s costing me on these Lego sets. We got the Millennium Falcon coming, which is kind of like the second largest set next to the Titanic. A lot of pieces, thousands.”

William Byron piloted the No. 24 for JR Motorsports for the zMAX CARS Tour’s visit to Caraway Speedway on July 3rd. But despite making Dale Earnhardt Jr proud there, he got on his nerves regarding. Yet Dale Jr is having a lot of fun. “The Batman, the animated series set – which is kind of like the shadow box of the Batman cave. It’s really neat. The Ghostbusters car, the Back to the Future car, and then this retro 50’s style radio.” Dale Jr hence took a cheeky jab at the Lego master: “So, Byron, you’re an a**hole. But I love these Legos man. And I’m having fun with that.”

But indoors, he has another hobby that involves the culinary arts. We are all aware of Dale Jr’s peculiar food habits – remember the banana-mayonnaise sandwich? Then the veteran racer drank whisky and smoked cigarettes to get his head straight before race weekends.

As it turns out, Dale Jr also likes to wear the cook’s apron. He professed his culinary passion as early as 2012 when journalist Jeff Gluck interviewed him. He said, “I like to cook I cook a lot of meals. I do a lot of tacos, steak and chicken and salad (with) steak and chicken,” he said. “I can cook French toast. I can cook anything.” Dale Jr even cooked for his former boss, Rick Hendrick, while entertaining loved ones. I’ve cooked for my boss (Rick Hendrick) when I was trying to get hired. I had Rick over and cooked him a dinner with my sister; well, I cooked the dinner, but my sister was there. I cooked for my girlfriend, my mom. I like to cook. I get on the Internet and Google the recipes and try to make it.”

Presently, though, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s indoor passions have deflected away from the kitchen. He builds Legos to relax after a hectic broadcasting or podcast recording day, as William Byron relaxes after races.
