Shane van Gisbergen made history in the NASCAR with a win in debut at the Chicago Street Circuit. In addition, his top-ten finish in Indianapolis further boosted his claim as a perfect fit to race regularly in NASCAR’s top-tier competition. While he is all set for a packed schedule in the sport next year, it is debatable how beneficial will it turn out to be.

Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks confirmed earlier how he was keen on getting SVG more time on the track in the United States. While the New Zealander’s 2024 schedule looks exciting, there are things to ponder upon.

Just over a day back, Shane van Gisbergen and his 2024 plans in NASCAR came to light. While the schedule will see him race full-time in the Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing, he will compete in at least seven races in the Cup Series next year. It is going to be a massive test for SVG despite his legendary track record in the Supercars Championship.

Having done well down under, van Gisbergen is now looking to find his feet in the United States. Safe to say, Trackhouse Racing Team and Kaulig Racing have tried their best to give the New Zealander an interesting experience in the 2024 season.

With his intense schedule, SVG will be racing plenty but the question is, will it be helpful? While the 34-year-old will be competing in both the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series, his participation in the Truck Series is yet to be known.

In comparison to the Xfinity Series, many drivers have voiced in favor of the Truck Series. With NASCAR’s third-tier competition having less horsepower and less off-throttle time, the setup looks closer to that in the Cup Series. Not long ago, Brennan Poole highlighted this fact.

At the same time, the Xfinity Series has more experienced drivers and almost has as many races as the Cup Series does. So, while the technical setup goes in favor of the Truck Series, experience-wise the Xfinity Series takes the lead.

Having said that, Shane van Gisbergen has shown his adaptive nature. With his skill set, he is capable of adjusting to the demands of any competition. While he would benefit from any sort of Truck Series experience, his time in the Xfinity Series surely wouldn’t be a waste. In fact, Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks feels very positively about SVG’s schedule.

It is no secret that Trackhouse Racing has put plenty of effort into bringing Shane van Gisbergen to NASCAR. With the plan becoming a success in the 2023 campaign, the New Zealander’s new venture in 2024 is expected to be a game-changer.

With SVG set to compete in at least 40 races next year, Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks is excited about the journey. As reported by NBCSports.com, Marks said, “We know Shane will be incredibly competitive at the road course events in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series, but we wanted to get him as much experience on NASCAR ovals as possible, so I am really excited about his 2024 schedule.”
