If you told someone a year or so ago that Kevin Harvick would not only wreck his car in a practice session, but that very wreck could potentially lead him to sit out of the race, chances are nobody would have believed you. But that is exactly what was about to happen.
Ahead of the Cup Series race in Fontana, Harvick spun his car into the wall. And as we all know, the supply issues have been a big cloud of doom over many NASCAR teams in the infancy of the Next Gen era.
Arguably, no team has been hit worse than Stewart-Haas Racing as they headed to Southern California with only ONE car for Kevin Harvick. The same car which he crashed on Saturday.

This caused a major panic inside SHR and Kevin Harvick’s fans as there was a real possibility of him missing the race. However, after a long night in the garage, SHR seems to have saved the day for their driver.
And not only did they repair the car to make it fit for the race on Sunday, but they also made it good enough to pass the OSS on the second asking.

Harvick’s crew chief, Rodney Childers, also tweeted out a message of support and thankfulness to all his colleagues at SHR.
“Quite an interesting day.. I can’t thank everyone enough that helped us today. Everyone @StewartHaasRcng chipped in when we needed it most..Thank you to all the Nascar officials that were patient with us thru the whole deal. Car is good to go!! It turned out awesome,” he wrote.

Kevin Harvick expects a tough test at Fontana
Even before he wrecked in practice at the Auto Club Speedway, Kevin Harvick had already dished out what he expected from the rough, unforgiving asphalt of Fontana.
“When you go to Fontana, a two-mile racetrack where you have the most aggressive tire fall off of all the racetracks we go to,” Harvick said.

“It’ll be trial by fire.”
But considering what happened in practice and what could happen on Sunday, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that Kevin Harvick is lucky to be taking part in this trial by fire.
