At the Charlotte Motor Speedway, there was a scary accident involving Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing’s Chris Buescher. In the end, he was fished out from the upside-down car. However, there were some who were unhappy with the way NASCAR handled the extraction process. Among them was NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin, and he aired his concerns on the Door Bumper Clear podcast.

He said, “In the case he’s questioned ‘should he take five minutes’. The answer is absolutely not. We get to Daytona every year and we have a spotter’s meeting. They tell us, ‘If your driver flips over and the car is not on fire. Have him sit tight, because he is going to be safer if we come to the vehicle. We flip it in its upright position and they exit the car versus them undoing their six point harness, falling on their head. Who knows what’s in there that has moved around in this wreck. They’re going to be safer to sit tight’. Who the f*** wants to sit tight in an upside-down car for five minutes.”

What else did he say about the Chris Buescher accident?
Griffin acknowledged that Buescher was lucky that the car was not on fire. Additionally, NASCAR should have asked the team to flip the car over, as they would have done it faster and safer. Sadly, the #17 driver is not racing at the World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend. He was not injured in the crash, as scary as it was, but a different reason put him out of action.
As it happened, he tested positive for COVID-19, so he was forced to miss the race. Clearly, the pandemic is proving that it is not going anywhere and it can strike anyone at any time. Hopefully, he should recover in time for the next race in the 2022 Cup Series season.
