In the past season, NASCAR had seven road course circuits; Charlotte, Watkins, Indianapolis, COTA, Sonoma, Daytona, and Road America. Road-course circuits are, as their name suggests, race circuits that are held on cleared street surfaces or terrain.
Historically, these races were held on actual street circuits, with turns instead of the oval layout of a track. But public safety concerns meant that the races shifted to circuits that resembled street circuits.
The first such race was held in 1957 at Watkins Glen and Buddy Baker won that one.

Interestingly, all three of Kyle Larson’s three wins came in the 2021 season. And when you further look up on this list, Chase Elliott, at only 26-years of age sits on third.
So, as NASCAR adds more and more road course circuits to the year, we could soon see Gordon’s nine wins turn from a towering all-time record to a dwarf figure.
