It has been quite some time since we have seen Danica Patrick in a race car. However, there is no word of something like that taking place soon. The former IndyCar and NASCAR driver recently shared an Instagram story, where she shared a message about playing the long game. The former racer has been big in all things health-related, ever since her retirement. Therefore, her sharing a positive message has become quite a regular occurrence.

The video shared by Patrick showed her in a bikini getting ready for an ice bath on Valentine’s day. Soon after, she dips into the ice-cold water. Moreover, the story also featured a song by Miley Cyrus called “Flowers”. The song has been often characterized to be a revenge song. She eventually makes the dip and sits through it, despite the obvious signs of discomfort.

In the story, she also mentioned, “Love yourself in all the ways…My body was confused about this one, A love but I reminded it – we are playing the long game.”

What exactly is an ice bath and how does it help?

An ice bath is a recovery technique that involves immersing the body in very cold water. Typically, the temperatures range from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius.

The extreme cold of the water causes the blood vessels to constrict. Which in turn helps to reduce inflammation and swelling in the muscles. This can be particularly helpful for racing drivers, both during and after races. This is because the physical demands of driving can cause significant stress and strain on the body.

In addition to reducing inflammation and aiding in muscle recovery, ice baths may also help to improve circulation. Along with boosting the immune system and increasing energy levels, making them a popular recovery tool for athletes of all kinds. Including former racing drivers who may still experience the physical effects of their time on the track.

Knowing that Patrick has maintained her physical health even after all these years of racing, an ice bath from time to time makes perfect sense for her. Moreover, she isn’t alone in taking ice baths. Multiple drivers in NASCAR do the same. Sometime last year, Truck Series driver Hailie Deegan also took one of them. Not that she enjoyed the ice bath one bit, but it was important for her recovery.
