Another NASCAR week was already affected by rain, as Friday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway was stopped midway through the second stage. Amid wet conditions and thunderstorms, the race did get underway after a delay of almost half an hour, but incessant rain, later on, forced the race to stop.
The race was stopped on Lap 91 of the 250-lap event. Despite efforts to get things started again, it was not feasible to do so, and NASCAR postponed the race to noon ET on Sunday.
On Sunday, weather conditions are expected to be better. It is expected to be cloudy in the morning, but the chances of rain around race time hover around 20%. That is good news for the NASCAR drivers.

Where do the drivers currently stand in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race?
Bradon Jones led the race during the interruption and will restart as the leader on Sunday. Josh Berry, Daniel Hemric, Brett Moffitt, and Jeb Burton complete the top-5 behind him.
Noah Gragson won the opening stage on Friday, before losing the lead in Stage 2. However, Gragson was just one of five drivers who shared the lead in the 91 laps of racing under difficult conditions at Martinsville. Harrison Burton led the most laps (53).

The brief period of racing also had five cautions. Luckily, none of the drivers suffered any race-ending incidents. However, AJ Allmendinger was forced to pit under the green flag early on due to issues, and he went a lap down.
Reigning NASCAR Xfinity champion and 2021 points leader Austin Cindric holds 8th place when the race gets back under green. Meanwhile, Ty Gibbs, who has made a huge impression in his first two Xfinity races, is 13th.
