Home/NASCAR

A few years ago, there was a motorsport crossover between NASCAR and V8 Supercars. Ford had touched down in Adelaide, Australia, for an experiment. Three Ford Mustangs lined up side-by-side at the start finish line for a race. However, all three cars were different, as one was a road legal car, one was a V8 Supercar and the last one was a NASCAR car.

Of course, the road car set off first, driven by Scott McLaughlin. Then, Dick Johnson went next in the V8 Supercar Ford. Finally, Marcos Ambrose was the last to get off the blocks, behind the wheel of the NASCAR car. It is interesting to note that Johnson moved, just before McLaughlin entered the first corner. Meanwhile, Ambrose started moving, a few seconds after Johnson.

How did the NASCAR vs V8 Supercars vs road car showdown play out?

To the road car’s credit, it was able to hold its own, amid the other two breathing down its neck. For a long time, the gaps between the three machines were relatively even. However, the V8 Supercar and the NASCAR cars steadily closed the gap to their road car counterpart. Heading into the final corner, McLaughlin, Johnson and Ambrose were nose-to-tail as they rounded the bend. Then came the start-finish straight and the run to the line.

Unfortunately for McLaughlin, he was helpless on the main straight. This was because, the other two cars quickly overtook and then crossed the line. However in the NASCAR vs V8 Supercars battle, the latter won the race to the line. Though if we’re being honest, it was a very close call between Dick Johnson and Marcos Ambrose. The purpose of this little stunt was to show off the speed of the Ford cars on the road and in the two racing series.
