Most of the NASCAR drivers on the Cup Series grid are married and have already started families. Among them are Kyle Larson and his wife Katelyn, who have three children, Owen, Audrey, and Cooper. Owen Larson is the oldest, having been born in 2014, and is currently 10 years old. In an old video, Kyle Larson recalled a hilarious story involving his son and 3-time Cup champion Tony Stewart.

It all started back in 2017, with Jimmie Johnson snitching on Stewart. He pointed out that he spotted the Stewart-Haas Racing driver trying to teach young Owen a few words before a race. He innocently asked if Stewart’s lessons paid off, and Larson was forced to admit that they did. However, the then Chip Ganassi Racing driver confessed that he had some reservations about the curriculum.

Tony Stewart was trying to teach Owen Larson a few swear words. Fortunately, Stewart could control himself and the worst that he did was use the word ‘s–t.’ Unfortunately, it did have the desired effect of Owen Larson learning to say the word and later associating it with Stewart.

Larson laughed as he answered Johnson at the ‘After the Lap’ driver’s segment in 2017, “Oh, they stuck, since Daytona in February. So we’re sitting like this, watching DirtVision. We’re trying to get Owen to fall asleep on Tony’s man b—bs. Owen’s got his head right here, and Tony’s saying, ‘S—t! S—t! Sh*t! S—t!’ for 20 minutes. We don’t really hear him saying it. The next week, we’re driving to the airport and Owen starts saying ‘S—t.’ I’m like, ‘Why’s he saying s—t?’ So every time Owen sees Tony, Tony says ‘Say S—t! Say S—t!’, and Owen says ‘S—t'”

The trick that Stewart used was the process of repetition until the word was registered in Owen’s mind. However, he did have to be careful to not arouse any suspicion from Larson or his wife. At the time, the couple were hoping that baby Owen would fall asleep, and Stewart took it as a challenge. For some reason, he figured that swearing would work and thought it would have been a nice prank.

A week afterwards, Kyle Larson felt the effects of Stewart’s prank and it was too late for Owen to unlearn it. Tony Stewart may have since established himself as the fun uncle with the foul mouth. Fast-forward to several years later, and Owen Larson has grown and become a budding racer.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver is currently hard at work

It’s now 2025 and Kyle Larson is preparing for another season in the NASCAR Cup Series. Owen Larson is also making a name for himself in the dirt racing arena. Owen Larson recently competed at the Tulsa Shootout where he impressed everyone by rallying from behind the pack to secure a win in the qualifiers. However, he ended up coming short to Kyle Busch’s son, Brexton Busch, at the main event. His father made sure to take revenge at the Chili Bowl Nationals.

Of course, Larson is preparing for the upcoming campaign by running in dirt races. This includes the Chili Bowl Nationals, which he happened to win for the third time in his career. This is certainly another feather in his cap and ties fellow NASCAR cup rival Christopher Bell for three titles. Meanwhile, Kyle Busch was taking part in his first Chili Bowl Nationals and could only secure an E-Main finish.

However, he will have to contend with his teammates, notably William Byron and Chase Elliot, and defending champion Joey Logano and the Penske team who are yet to lose a Cup Series title in the Next-Gen era. Not to mention the perennial threats from Joe Gibbs Racing, with Chase Briscoe as their newest recruit. Do you think Kyle Larson can secure his second Cup Series Championship in 2025?
