What goes around, comes around. The race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway was a tough one for Kyle Larson. Especially because the race took away his chances of moving ahead to the Round of 8. But the events that knocked him out of the race definitely reminded him of the 2021 Playoff round.

After missing the cut-off by just 2 points, the Hendrick Motorsports driver ended up in the 9th position on the points table. Having tied up with Chase Briscoe during the race, Larson was eliminated from the playoffs after Cole Custer helped his teammate.

During the final laps of the race, Cole Custer slowed down his car at the backstretch. This helped his teammate Chase Briscoe to accumulate additional points, kicking Larson out of the playoffs. Although NASCAR penalized Custer for his actions, it seems Larson would totally understand why Custer did what he did.

Last year, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott found themselves in a similar position. Moreover, the #5 did something like Custer to help Elliott get an edge over Kevin Harvick.

In an interview with the Daytona Beach Journal, Larson was asked about his conversation with Elliott after helping him out on the track. To this, Larson replied, “There wasn’t much to talk about. He’s a great teammate, and I think if I’m ever in the same position as him, we don’t even have to communicate about it. He’ll know that I’ll have his back like he had mine. It’s a great vibe at our organization.”

With Larson’s answer, it’s clear that he understands what it means to help a teammate out. But unfortunately, he might have never thought that his actions at the 2021 race would come to haunt him during the 2022 Cup Series playoffs.
