The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series curtain-raiser at Daytona proved just how motorsports can be so exciting and frustrating simultaneously. The race in which Zane Smith took the white flag, twice, was full of drama, and naturally, sour reactions.
Towards the ‘expected’ ending of the race, the Front Row Motorsports driver was set to win as he led the field.
But with just one lap to go, a pileup of wrecks in the midfield brought out, what seemed at the time, a simultaneous white and yellow flag. However, this was soon cleared up by NASCAR as it was deemed the caution preceded the white flag, and hence we had a NASCAR race going to overtime.

And in overtime as well, another series of wrecks brought out another caution, but this one didn’t matter.
Because Zane Smith went on to take the white flag before the yellow flag came out this time as he went on to win the fourth race of his career.

As a result of this result, many NASCAR fans were left scratching their heads about the way the cautions were handled. Some reacted in a pretty sour way while some relied on good old sarcasm as they called out the inconsistency of the decision making.

Zane Smith reacts after his overtime win
Considering the circumstances for teams and drivers, the Front Row Motorsports driver was ecstatic after his first win of the season.
“This is something else,” Zane Smith said. “Man, literally my heart hurt during that late red flag. I thought we had (the win). Man, hats off to this whole group. They really put the work in and it’s so damn cool to see it when it pays off.”
“Man, this is going to be a really fun year. I’m going to try to make it a record year for myself. How cool is this?”

The first competitive race of the NASCAR season should get the fans excited. Just look at the level of drama and excitement there was in the first race, a race with a huge amount of wrecked trucks.
Speaking of wrecks, they’d be something to be avoided on Sunday by those who have a supply shortage. But at the same time, they’d want to race hard and race for the win.

So all of this should ensure, for fans at least, a pretty solid Daytona 500 weekend.
