The NASCAR world witnessed the most awaited race of the year recently. The race was action-packed with the drivers giving their all to get the checkered flag. For many, it would have been their first win at the Daytona 500. Amidst all the action was Denny Hamlin, who made a blunder that left everyone surprised.

In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, spotters Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft shed some light on what exactly happened. It was the incident where Denny Hamlin bumped Martin Truex Jr who was already pushing Bubba Wallace. Hamlin’s move resulted in Truex Jr bumping Bubba Wallace, causing him to get pushed into the wall.

While discussing this incident in the podcast, Griffin expressed in wonder that as a spotter what is the first thing that comes to their mind? He said, “the first thing I think is what the f** was he doing? The second thing I think is what do we need to do now?” Freddie Kraft, spotter for Bubba Wallace, in agreement with Griffin expressed that in the race that day they were trying to figure out their way to get ahead of other cars and eventually Hamlin’s.

He said, “We got a good shot, we both get clear. We pass it the 14. We’re going on the backstretch, and then he kind of runs the 19 to the back of us and like it’s hard to tell depth on the back straightaway, obviously, because then he drove right to the back.”

Explaining the situation further he said, “it’s hard to tell like you get turned into a wall like that. So it looks to me like we’re going on the backstretch and Martin just yanks out and I’m like, Oh F***, and like yeah, like wait a minute what’s going on here and then, Bubba’s was slow and I’m like, now I gotta get we’re going to pit road.”

Kraft added how it becomes difficult to change the gameplay when such an incident happens. He said, “So you’re looking kind of a couple laps ahead and this is where these runs are coming from, and then all of a sudden that just all gets crumpled up and thrown out the window. You’re like, wait a minute, what the hell is going on here?”

While listening to it all, Griffin pointed out that it looked like Kraft was turning on 23XI Racing team co-owner Hamlin a bit. To which he said, “I know it was payback for the Coliseum.”
