The Indianapolis race concluded this weekend, leading to the impending penultimate race prior to the playoffs. Michael McDowell‘s victory in the #34 Ford under the Front Row Motorsports banner secured him a sought-after playoff position. Nevertheless, the weekend did not unfold seamlessly for all. The #22 Shell-Pennzoil team experienced recurring misfortune, marking a haunting déjà vu from last year at Indy.

Fans and pundits alike held Joey Logano accountable for his disappointing race finish, fueling discussions on his aggressive on-track antics. Twitter erupted with reactions from motorsport aficionados as Logano’s actions triggered repercussions for fellow racers on the track.

Starting 18th, Logano’s race began with a plunge into the corner on Lap 1, inadvertently skipping the curb at the chicane, propelling him into Justin Haley, sending the latter into the tire barrier and damaging the No. 31. Soon after a Lap 6 restart saw Logano entering a tight turn 1 with excessive momentum that led to a spin and substantial front-end damage due to contact with teammate Ryan Blaney.

Unyielding green-flag circumstances thwarted potential repairs, forcing Logano to contend with his ailing car’s performance. Ultimately, he found himself relegated one lap down, sealing his fate with a 34th-place finish as the checkered flag unfurled.

Sunday’s events echoed Logano’s Indy outing on the road course last year. Dubbed “Calamity Corner” by NBC announcers, the track’s extended front straight and the intense braking zone into the 90-degree right-hand Turn 1 invited ambitious driving attempts. However, Logano’s overzealous approach, along with others, led to chaos. The narrow width of the tarmac, allowing only a 2-car lane, exacerbated the situation as cars spun and collided.

Opinions diverged further on Logano’s road course prowess. Observers described him as “mid on road courses” and “a weapon on road courses,” turning into a “wrecking ball” at Indy. Another quipped, “Typical Logano. Ran out of talent on a road course.” Some attributed his lap 6 situation to karma, stating, “Karma for wrecking the 31.” referring to his contact with Haley.
