Over the years, Danica Patrick has earned the respect of a lot of people for being one of the most successful female racecar drivers of all time. However, it’s not always one’s achievements that make them gain or lose fans, it is their words and actions. That is what Patrick found out the hard way on Friday. On a recent episode of her podcast, “Pretty Intense,” she dabbled into a rather sensitive issue.

Patrick created history in 2008 when she became the first female driver to win a race in the IndyCar Series in the Japan 300. That year, she finished sixth in the championship and in 2009, she went even further to finish in fifth. But that doesn’t stop fans from keeping those achievements aside and confronting her for calling a guest on her podcast who had some pretty questionable views.

On a recent episode of the Pretty Intense podcast, former Cup Series driver Danica Patrick invited scholar Randall Carlson to speak about one of the most important issues that the world faces today, climate change. Climate change has been prevalent on our planet for the longest time but people have only just started realizing just how destructive it is to the planet.

From the melting of the polar ice caps to rampant wildfires and rising sea levels, things do not look good for future generations if the years of scientific studies and observations are to be believed.

However, there still exists a large number of people who believe that climate change is not that big of a threat and the planet will bounce back. One of those people is Randall Carlson, who made his point about the climate change debate on Patrick’s show.

“Every single front of scientific research into Earth’s history, confirms that the history of this planet is extraordinarily dynamic and is subject to all kind of changes. We know with the Younger Dryas for example, at 1300 years, the melting process was not only stopped, it was probably reversed. And so you had this period of rapid melting followed by this rapid shift into major glacial cold and then you had this re-growth of the ice sheets,” he said.

It’s safe to say that his comments were not received by everyone and there can be no surprises. On a topic as sensitive as this, Patrick would have expected a certain amount of backlash, but whether she expected as much criticism as she got is debatable.

Climate change is something that will affect everyone on this planet, so when someone says that the process is reversible despite thousands of scientists stating that it’s not, a lot of people are bound to oppose and quite strongly.

“Struggling that bad to find people to come on your show that you have to revert to climate deniers? What next; a flat earther?” commented one user, slamming the IndyCar race winner.

“He has a PHd in what? Not saying that is what matters but helps the dialogue,” wrote another.

There were people who unfollowed the motorsport athlete on Instagram as well for inviting Carlson on her podcast.

“Difference of opinion is one thing, but denying facts & science is ignorance. Unfollowed,” one commented.

“Huh. One less account to follow. Yay, me!” wrote another.

People didn’t shy away from criticizing the former Cup Series driver for straying away from the scientific facts to conspiracy theories.

“@danicapatrick please stop with the BS. Why are you always gravitating to non-scientific reasoning or conspiracy theories?” wrote a user.

It’s safe to say that a subject as delicate and important as climate change will always draw attention from both sides of the debate. While the majority believe that Carlson isn’t stating the facts, there will be a large number of people opposing the other side of the debate as well.
