A wise man once said, You can take a beast out of a jungle, but you can never take the jungle out of a beast. The same principle applies in the arena of stock car racing. After all, there’s a reason why retired drivers like Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have been making appearances behind the wheel even after their retirement. Once you fall in love with the thrill of driving a stock car, it never really leaves you. It was no different for 61-year-old Boris Said.
It’s been 2 years since the NY resident put down his helmet and firesuit, only to pick them back up. And all of that happened because of a phone call from Rick Hendrick. The owner of the winningest NASCAR team‘s early Christmas gift to Boris was a ride in the Xfinity Series with his number 17 Chevrolet. Needless to say, Said felt ecstatic. Unfortunately, things did not end well for him.
Hendrick Motorsports failed Boris Said, the way SHR failed Kevin Harvick

Despite having his own set of problems at the ROVAL, Boris Said had pledged to do his absolute best as he considered this to be the last race of his career. He had even said that if he could get lucky enough to win the race, he would mic-drop his victory and leave the stage gloriously, never to return again. However, all his hopes turned cold as ice when he failed to qualify for the closing race of the first playoff round.
Miseries heightened when the fans got an ‘SHR’ flashback from last week. Retiring Stewart-Haas Racing speedster Kevin Harvick fell out of playoff contention despite securing a commendable 2nd-place finish for a mechanical issue revolving around his windshield fasteners.

NASCAR disqualified the #4 Ford icon from a race that could have brought him the last victory of his career. Fast forward to this week, and the same pattern repeated when Boris Said got disqualified right on the opening lap of the qualifying race due to a mechanical issue.

The two-time 24 Hours of Daytona 500 winner is a seasoned driver in his own rights. Being the 15th-oldest driver to make a start in the Xfinity Series, Boris Said ranks behind NASCAR stalwarts like Bill Elliott, Brad Teague, Mark Thompson, and Mike Harmon. The first American to have ever won the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, Said, has proven his driving prowess over and over again. However, he did not expect Hendrick Motorsports to welcome him like they welcome their regulars, like William Byron or Kyle Larson. But he was wrong.
According to NBC, Boris Said, “…it was the total opposite. They treated me like Kyle Larson, which I was shocked. Because I don’t think I would treat myself like that.” Sadly, the endeavor ended on a sour note for Said. When Toby Christie tweeted, “Chad Knaus is huddled with the No. 17@TeamHendrick group to go over what went wrong on Boris Said’s car today, which resulted in a DNQ. #NASCAR”, fans dissed Rick Hendrick’s team for wronging Boris.

On that note, someone commented, “So much for a hype for Boris Said… what a waste.”
Reflecting on the other drivers who did not qualify, a motorsport enthusiast typed, “Shocked that both Preston Pardus and Andy Lally not making it, such a shame for them…”

It was indeed anticlimactic when Boris Said failed to even qualify for the last race of his 37-year-long career. Someone’s sad words reiterated, “Boris Said failing to qualify for today’s #NASCAR Xfinity race is bringing me way down…” Meanwhile, another said, “Boris Said DNQs at Charlotte. I am big sadge 😔” It’s indeed very unfortunate how both Kevin Harvick and Boris Said got disqualified from the last races of their careers. Surely, these were definitely not the endings that these two legends were expecting.
