When Kevin Harvick got ousted from playoff contention back in Daytona, Stewart-Haas Racing fans wailed to see the long and illustrious career of the #4 Ford sensation come to a winless end. Indeed, Kevin Harvick was the sole playoff survivor from Tony Stewart‘s Cup team, but 2023 just did not seem to be his year as he failed to make it into the round of 16.

However, one hope still lingered. The 47-year-old speedster could have still managed to secure a win before he brought an end to his racing career. And yesterday’s YellaWood 500 was a good chance at it. But he lost to Ryan Blaney by a narrow margin and finished second. One would think a second-place finisher is not even that bad. However, his misery heightened just a couple of hours after the race ended.

When Kevin Harvick took his helmet off and climbed out of his number 4 Mustang after a tiring 188-lap-long race, he might not have been very happy to have let slip the win. Coming in second hurts more than not making it into the top 5. It makes you think you’re almost there, but quite not there. And picking yourself up from where you left off and coming back stronger the next time is undoubtedly a huge task.

However, post-Phoenix, a carefree Kevin Harvick could have talked about his last win at the madhouse called Talladega and felt proud about it. Nevertheless, that did not happen. But talking about and reflecting on how he got disqualified after finishing second will perhaps hurt more. Some might even agree that it’s worse than a DNF.

According to NASCAR, the number 4 team violated the sections of the rulebook that state the windshield and overall assembled vehicle rules. The windshield fasteners on Kevin Harvick’s Cup ride were not secure. Fans would probably wonder if it’s more of a safety protocol breach or a violation of a rule.

Although everyone else passed the post-race inspection, NASCAR took four other cars to the R&D Center’s engine dynamometer test, also known as dyno. These were William Byron’s 24, Denny Hamlin’s 11, Justin Haley’s 31, and Ryan Preece’s 41.

Moments after the race, veteran FOX Sports journalist and writer Bob Pockrass tweeted, “Blaney’s car is good in tech and he is in the winner. Harvick DQ’d for windshield fasteners not secure. NASCAR taking four engines to dyno — Byron (Hendrick), Hamlin (TRD), Haley (ECR), Preece (Roush Yates)”

Fans on Reddit found it ridiculous that NASCAR disqualified Kevin Harvick just because he had loose windshield fasteners.

Someone said, “Wonder if NASCAR would’ve slid this under the rug if he got his last W in a photo finish”

Another expressed their lack of trust in NASCAR and wrote, “It’s hard to trust NASCAR.……I didn’t see Harvick’s windshield shaking or bending. How tight do they have to be? What’s the competitive advantage?”
