A few days ago Chase Elliott became the sport’s most popular driver despite not winning even a single race this season. Now, that goes to show how much the community adores him. The HMS driver was the one who broke Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s 15-year reign as the most popular driver when he won it in 2017, only to bag the award 6 times back-to-back in the coming years. With that fact established, who else would you call in to promote your latest product if not for the golden boy of NASCAR?
That was exactly what Chevrolet did when they got the 2020 Cup Series champion in the seat of their latest offering – a robust new Chevy Colorado ZR2.

Despite a disastrous year in NASCAR’s top division, Elliott seems like he isn’t letting this past season’s failure bother him anymore. While an unfortunate snowboarding incident had him sidelined for 6 races, fast forward a couple of months, the driver is in perfect shape now, promoting Chevy’s new iteration of their Colorado – the ZR2.
Amidst the off-season, The HMS driver was seen “playing in mud” alongside Tim Demetrio, Team Chevy’s Performance Variant Integration Manager, testing the new vehicle.
The new promotional feature certainly blew the minds of auto enthusiasts and the NASCAR driver alike. Coupling a company employee with the feisty racer ensured that the brand got what it needed – an exceptional ad. In the short video, the #9 driver was seen taking the truck through bumpy roads and uneven terrain while the vehicle was handling it like it was a piece of cake. It even prompts the driver to say, “I dont know half of what that is but what you’re saying is the Colorado ZR2 is like a hot knife through butter.”

Having a proper knowledgeable fellow from the industry as his co-driver, explaining the mechanics, was a treat for ardent Elliott fans. Elliott having his own fun, even let out a “We’re having a time.”

For passionate fans, Elliott being named the most popular driver was a no-brainer. But him earning the title after a dismal season certainly was a shocker for his critics. After all, the driver won it for the past 5 years and long before that his legendary father, the great Bill Elliott, was given the same honor a whopping 16 times.
During the Awards gala at the Music City Center in Nashville, Elliott was seen wearing an arm sling as part of his rehab following the shoulder surgery for an older injury. He even relayed that he didn’t see this becoming a problem, even when the 2024 season is in full swing.
According to Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass, Elliott said, “Anytime you have surgery, and you go through the process, any little setback can slow the process down. But thus far everything has gone really well. The way I see things today, I don’t think there’s anything that would make me think that next year will be compromised at the beginning of the season, including the Clash.”
