Recently, Joey Logano made an appearance on the Bobby Bones Show. He opened up on a variety of subjects and even touched upon his early NASCAR days. To be more specific, the reigning NASCAR Cup champion talked about his days as a rookie and going up against more seasoned drivers. He confessed that some of the senior drivers often bully the rookie drivers on the track.

The Team Penske driver said, “So when you’re a rookie in the Cup Series, they put a stripe on the back bumper. Everybody knows, ‘This is the new guy’. It definitely is like a lot of the drivers have been around for a while. It’s almost like they set the tone pretty aggressively with that driver. They try to take control like, ‘Hey, welcome to the big league’ moments. Here we are, this is how we race, not standing up for this or whatever it may be. I went through this a lot with Kevin Harvick early in my career. We got in a couple of pushing and shoving matches. Back and forth on the racetrack, it was just like, really hard to deal with.”

As mentioned before, the #22 driver is the reigning Cup Series champion. This makes it his second career NASCAR Cup Series title. So it is safe to say that Logano’s career has been on an uphill surge. Barring the 2017 season, he has featured in the Top 10 in every season since he began racing for Team Penske. Strangely enough, in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and this year, he reached the championship 4.
Now the big question is, can Joey Logano be the first driver to defend his Cup Series title? Countless others have failed before him and few have won back-to-back titles in recent memory. The latest one to actually achieve this feat is none other than Jimmie Johnson. This was all the way back between 2006 and all the way up till 2010.
