It was no surprise when Chase Elliott bagged the ‘NASCAR Most Popular Driver Award’ for the sixth consecutive season in 2023. Apart from excelling on the track Elliott has also been winning hearts for sometime. This was on display again when he went out of his way for a young fan, drawing appreciation from a NASCAR insider.

Being the most popular driver on the circuit is something the Elliott family is well versed with. Chase’s father Bill won the award 16 times and as they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

The Kansas outing was extra special for the young Chase Elliott admirer

FOX NASCAR reporter Jamie Little received a letter from a high school teacher in suburban Kansas City. The letter mentioned a young boy from her school, Sully, who is a big fan of Chase Elliott and regularly follows him. It stated that Sully would be visiting the Kansas race on the 5th and asked her if she could do anything from her end to make Sully meet his hero. Finding the letter fascinating, Little went to Elliott ahead of the Kansas Cup race. She described the entire situation, and HMS #9 reacted in the most adorable manner.

Elliott made sure that Sully and his family spent quality time with him, clicked pictures, and had autographs. This was a small yet amazing gesture from the star driver. This also explains why he has been a worthy recipient of the ‘Most Popular Award’ many times.

“Sully and his family got to meet Chase and spend a little time chatting and getting photos and autographs. It was a small gesture by a huge NASCAR driver that made a lifelong impression on a young man,” wrote Little as she shared the pictures on Instagram. “Well done Chase! And awesome meeting you Sully!,” she added. This wasn’t the first time Elliot has given a young fan memories to last forever.

Back in 2017, while promoting the Brickyard 400, Elliott went to the track to walk the grid of the USAC .25 Midget Battle at the Brickyard. There, an emotional exchange with one young racer melted hearts. Elliott took time to sit beside the young kid who was in a kart and crying tears of joy at seeing his favorite driver. In 2018 as well, Elliott took time to sign the hat of a young kid in New Hampshire after a race.

Chase Elliott engaging with fans, especially young ones, shows that he realizes his role not only as a competitor but as a figure of inspiration. Coming to his most recent heartwarming act, Jamie Little also shared the letter she received from Sully’s teacher with the special request.

“He wears his gear every day,” Sully’s love for NASCAR revealed in letter to Jamie Little

As it would be for any fan, the moment was a dream come true for young Sully. It was noted by his teacher that he regularly wears HMS #9’s gear to school and is very vocal about his admiration for Elliott. The teacher made sure to thank Jamie Little, due to whom this was possible. She wrote, “You made a cameo for one of my students recently… Sully. I cannot thank you enough for doing this… He is still on Cloud 9 about it.. He kept saying: ‘No way! This isn’t real! How did you get this!!!’ On and on.” The letter also saw Sully’s teacher make the request to Little about making Sully’s weekend special.

It further read, “He LOVES NASCAR and especially Chase Elliott…he wears his gear every day and was given this ring recently…I don’t want to impose, but if there is anything you can do to make that weekend special for him, I would be more than grateful.” As it turns out Little and Elliott did make it a great weekend for Sully.

As a result, we expect young Sully to be a more dedicated follower of NASCAR from now on. He was not disappointed in Kansas, either. His favorite star clinched a P3 position by leading a total of 47 laps. Even though he fell short of the win for his teammates Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher, Elliott holds a firm grip on his third spot in the Cup Series table.

Speaking about how he interacted with his fans, it is indeed great news for him as well as NASCAR. Gestures like this encourage especially young fans to visit race tracks regularly. Who knows? Looking at the Kansas example, someone else might be waiting for Chase Elliott in the upcoming Darlington outing as well, and we expect the 28-year-old to treat them the same way he treated Sully!
