During an exclusive interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Busch exuded pride as he talked about the immense progress made by his team, Richard Childress Racing (RCR), and ECR, the engine supplier. 

Although a first-place finish eluded him, Busch secured a respectable third position, which he attributes to the team’s hard work and improvement. As the Hendrick cars faltered towards the end of the race, Busch’s remarkable ability to adapt and conquer gave him the edge, leaving him elated and determined to seize more wins in the future.

The race day witnessed an unexpected turn of events for the Hendrick cars, which started strongly but couldn’t maintain momentum. Despite a promising first stage, the Hendrick Motorsports cars faded away as the race wore on, leaving their drivers scrambling for answers. In contrast, Kyle Busch and his team experienced an entirely different trajectory. The initial run was a struggle for them, but as the laps ticked away, they found their rhythm and gradually surged forward. The difference in performance between the two powerhouses could not have been more apparent.

“I saw the Hendrick cars there. In the first stage, they were pretty good, but then they seemed to fall off and not be as good the rest of the day. And where we were opposite of that, we were really bad the first run, and then we got a lot better as the day wore on. So you know, I’ll take being better at the end. That always gives you a better finish.” Rowdy told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

The Richmond race was a defining moment for Kyle Busch and his team, who had faced challenges on short tracks throughout the year. The determined driver asserted that their struggles were not entirely behind them, but significant progress had been made. Thanks to the hard work of the entire team at RCR and ECR, the 2009 Xfinity Series Champion found himself in a much better position to navigate the twists and turns of the race. During the grueling 170-lap stretch, Busch’s car found its sweet spot on the long runs. “After about lap 50, we really dropped off and fell off,” Busch honestly admitted to NBC Sports. “But the first 50 laps, we could hang on and do OK.”

Kyle Busch’s team demonstrated an extraordinary performance on the pit road, further bolstering Busch’s chances of redemption. As the laps dwindled down, Busch’s drive intensified, making the most of a carefully tailored engine from RCR, ECR. Ultimately, the checkered flag saw a jubilant Kyle Busch securing a well-deserved third place, marking a momentous achievement for the struggling team. “We needed something like this to be solid on the short tracks and to kind of get our momentum back heading in the right direction,” Busch said, visibly elated.
