After North Wilkesboro was announced to be a part of the Cup Series calendar next year, many old-school fans of the sport seemed to be elated with the news. NASCAR spotter and podcaster, Brett Griffin feels NASCAR has abandoned its hardcore fan base in order to please the new generation of people. He also believes that old-schoolers would love to see the addition of North Wilkesboro in the regular Cup Series.

During the podcast, Griffin stated, “This is gonna make some people upset but I feel like we’ve alienated some of our hardcore fans and we’ve been chasing the ghost. Like we want this West Coast fan, we want this fan that loves TikTok.”

He added, “We went back to our roots we went back to short-track racing, we went to a place with worn-out asphalt where tires were gonna wear out, guys have to gotta manage their stuff, and people like Dale Junior who appreciate the history of the sport are going to go nuts over this.”

Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr finishes third at North Wilkesboro post-revival race

Junior stormed to finish in third place in front of a sold-out crowd at North Wilkesboro Speedway during the CARS Tour’s Window World 125. This was the first time a proper race was held at the venue ever since it was revived from its dilapidated state.

He drove in his iconic number 3, Green and Yellow Sun Drop livery Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt Jr managed to qualify in P6 and then as the race started he managed to climb up to the third position before the chequered flag dropped. The race was won by Carson Kvapil, who is a late model driver for Junior’s team, JR Motorsports.
