Last weekend, Chase Elliott earned the ire of Cody Ware at the Bristol Motor Speedway. This all started because Elliott punted him and caused a five car wreck. Later on in the race, Ware managed to catch up to Elliott and tried to spin him out under the caution. Now, a week later, the Hendrick Motorsports driver reflected on the incident and Ware’s angered reaction.
He said, “It’s hard for me to see. Kind of crazy, but I might go see him. We’re racing for last, who cares. I mean, goodness! There’s no drama there. We’re racing for last, like I’m not going to run through you for last. I don’t know why he’s so upset about it. I’ve considered going to find him and saying, ‘Hey, nothing intentional on my end’. I left it there, I can’t control what other people do, but there’s no drama there.”

Now, the 2020 Cup Series champion will have to put this incident behind him. This is because the paddock has already moved on and is competing at the Talladega Superspeedway. Elliott really cannot afford to dwell on a petty rivalry and kick off an endless cycle of revenge. Even more important than that is his hunt for his first win of the season, though he is leading the championship.
To make matters worse, he has qualified all the way down in 28th place. So, the #9 driver will have to initiate a massive comeback from the back of the pack. Fortunately for him, the Talladega Superspeedway is a fairly large oval, so there will be plenty of chances to overtake and get a slipstream.
