Back in 2019, one of NASCAR’s typical ‘big ones’ occurred at the Talladega Superspeedway. As the pack exited the second corner, the #38 of David Ragan got a little loose and bumped the #24 of William Byron into the wall. An out-of-control Byron then spun and careened into the side of an unaware Kyle Larson. In the process, Jeffrey Earnhardt was also bumped out, as he was alongside Larson.

As the #42 car of Larson spun off towards the inside wall, it caught a little bit of air. Owing to that, the helpless car was sent half airborne and the car’s nose buried itself into the wall. The impact was so hard that the Chevrolet car was on its roof and then went into a series of barrel rolls.

Naturally, it was curtains for Kyle Larson, Jeffrey Earnhardt, William Byron, and David Ragan. In a way, many drivers were lucky to dodge the accident and make it worse than it already was. It was the last incident in that race. The rest of the drivers continued until the checkered flag.

How did the race finish after the Kyle Larson accident?

In the end, Chase Elliott led a Hendrick Motorsports 1-2, ahead of Alex Bowman. There was also some delight for rookie driver Ryan Preece who finished 3rd after starting 30th for the GEICO 500. Joey Logano was 4th, ahead of another rookie, Daniel Hemric completing the Top 5.

Meanwhile, it was a disappointing day in the office for Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, and many more. Many of them were caught up in early wrecks, and it spelled doom for their campaigns at Talladega. On the bright side, it was still early days into the 2019 Cup Series championship battle. Naturally, the tussles continued, and in the end, Kyle Busch went on to claim his second Cup Series title.
