This weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series is at the Texas Motor Speedway. It marks the first race in the second round of the Playoffs, with 12 drivers vying for eight berths in the next round. Among the contenders is 23XI Racing star, Tyler Reddick, who has been in fine form lately. To make matters even better, he won last year’s edition of the race.

So it isn’t out of the realm of possibility to see him back in Victory Lane. It is worth mentioning that he is competing with a different team this year, but he has proven that he is talented. After all, he did snatch a couple of wins this year and is firmly in Playoff contention. Meanwhile, the one driving his former #8 machine is none other than Kyle Busch. So he could also be a dark horse in the competition, especially since he too is in Playoff contention.

How did the race play out at the Texas Motor Speedway in 2022?

Last year, Brad Keselowski snatched pole position, ahead of former teammate Joey Logano. Reddick qualified in fourth place, sharing the second row with Hendrick Motorsports driver, William Byron. This was actually a race of attrition because the event was plagued by numerous tire issues. So many competitors spun out because of punctured tires, and it was quite worrying.

Kevin Harvick’s crew chief, Rodney Childers, even devised a small theory. According to him and Corey LaJoie, the issue stemmed from teams running tire pressures lower than what Goodyear recommended. This was mostly because they were trying to extract more speed in spite of restrictions to suspension shock travel. Childers even theorized that the track configuration only exacerbated the problem.

After the first stage, it was Kyle Larson who won ahead of Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano. Pole-sitter Keselowski could only manage 8th, while Reddick was nowhere to be seen in the Top 10. When stage 2 concluded, Ryan Blaney was the race leader, ahead of Ross Chastain and William Byron. Keselowski was fourth, while Reddick was still nowhere in the Top 10.

So in the last 124 laps, the then-Richard Childress Racing driver really hustled. He fought his way up the pack and eventually won the race, ahead of Logano and Justin Haley. Joey Logano would eventually go on to win the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series title, with Reddick finishing the year in 14th, but that is another story.
