Before Kyle Busch, it was Tony Stewart was also known to speak his mind no matter what. Back in 2004, he got involved in a spate of scraps with Rusty Wallace. Unfortunately, he caught the ire of commentator Darrell Waltrip, who commented that he was notorious for starting several wrecks.

Of course, Stewart was initially dismissive, saying that people could say whatever they wanted. Later on, the #20 driver came out swinging, as the comments got worse.

He said, “Darrell’s memory kind of gets a little screwed up sometimes. I guess that he forgets that with all the rule changes he wants NASCAR to make. He forgets that if they change the rules and took the championships provisionally, he wouldn’t have been able to race, the last two years.”

“I know Darrell’s doing what he has to do, his job. But I think there’s a lot of times, what you see on the screen, isn’t the whole total story. I think they’ve done a real good job in the booth, of blowing things way out of proportion like they normally do.”

What is Tony Stewart up to since then?

Unfortunately, the 2002 champion didn’t quite win the championship during the 2004 season. Instead, it was Kurt Busch who emerged triumphantly. Luckily for Stewart, he went on to triumph in the 2005 season and bagged the third title in 2011.

Beyond that, he continued racing until the 2016 season before he finally retired from NASCAR.

Despite walking away from NASCAR, the 50-year-old is still racing to this day. In fact, his newest venture is the Superstar Racing Experience, which made its debut last year. In the inaugural season, co-founder Stewart clinched the championship, and he is waiting for season 2.

The second season of the series is expected to begin later on this year, and people cannot wait to see top stars compete with each other.
