Sesame Street is one of the oldest and is often regarded as one of the most iconic TV shows in history. Having first aired in 1969 and still going strong, Sesame Street’s primary objective is to educate children. The show achieves this through sketches, puppetry, animation, and more. It is also worth mentioning that a number of celebrities occasionally appear in the episodes to help educate the children. One of those celebrities was none other than 4-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon.

This was back in 2009 when the show aired a racing-themed episode. Gordon was there as a commentator for a worm-themed race. Of course, since the competitors were worms, the race track was aptly called the Squirmadega Superspeedway. There were five competitors, Dale Wormhardt Jr, Kyle Skwush, Juan Mudtoya, Shawna Wiggleson, and Slimey.

Gordon described the track, which takes the cars over a laundry basket, under a table, and around a fire hydrant. Finally, the finish line was through the legs of Big Bird, who had the chequered flag. Before long, Oscar the Grouch gave the order, “Gentleworms, start your engines”. Jeff Gordon even channeled his inner Darrell Waltrip and chanted, “Squiggly, Squiggly, Squiggly, let’s go worm!

The first casualty was Dale Wormhardt Jr, who failed to make it over the laundry basket. Next, Kyle Skwush crashed into the table, while Juan Mudtoya got a little lost around the fire hydrant. This effectively put him out of contention for the win. Finally, the last obstacle was Big Bird’s legs. So it was a straight battle between Shawna Wiggleson and Slimey for the race win.

The latter was one of the favorites but unfortunately crashed into Big Bird’s foot. This allowed Shawna to overtake and snatch victory. Fortunately, all competitors were able to slither away unscathed from their respective vehicles. One thing is for sure, Jeff Gordon had a jolly good time on the set of Sesame Street.
