Any time a NASCAR driver wins at the Martinsville Speedway, their trophy is in the shape of a life-size grandfather clock. It was introduced by Martinsville Speedway founder H. Clay Earles. So, in 2018, Clint Bowyer got to take home this prestigious trophy and joked about his methodology in taking it home.

Speaking after the race, he crowed, “How about that!

“I’m gonna ratchet-strap it [the clock] to my wife’s SUV. But it’s coming home!”

The #14 driver had every reason to be whooping in delight, as this win ended a 190-race winless streak. In addition to that, this was also his first victory for Stewart-Haas-Racing.

You know I make fun of these other drivers sometimes for having tears in victory lane, but I’ve got to admit that moment got to me,said Bowyer.

“Cash is young enough that he had never been to victory lane before, so it was his first chance to be there. That’s something I always wanted to make happen.”

On Sunday, the #14 driver is set to compete at the track for the last time, before retiring. It is also worth noting that he has a great track record at the Virginia track, with six top 5 finishes and 15 top-10s. The NASCAR veteran considers it a home track.

In the 2020 season, Clint Bowyer arrives at Martinsville with nothing to lose. This is because he is already out of the playoff running. A few days ago at the Texas Motor Speedway, he had the opportunity to lead the race. Safe to say, he and Jimmie Johnson had a fun time. That win in 2018 is his only one at the track, but it is certainly one that he treasures dearly.

When Bowyer eventually hangs up his racing gloves, he will walk away with 10 wins and 225 Top 10 finishes. In addition to that, he has four pole positions in the NASCAR Cup Series. Until then, he has to wrap up the race at Phoenix Raceway in the coming week. Only then, will he trade his racing gloves for a microphone when he takes up a commentary role in 2021.
