The 2023 Cup Series has eventually veered towards his twilight zone. With the first playoff race over, the Cup Series driver is set to fly to Kansas Speedway. A track that is comparatively newer may not boast iconic status, but it echoes the ambitions of NASCAR in boosting the popularity of the sport. Nevertheless, this track has been one of the arbiters of the fates of the playoff drivers.

Moreover, this track has been witness to a few of the worst crashes in the history of the sport. While many turned out to be fatal in nature, others allowed the drivers to escape unscathed. One such was the harrowing crash between Joey Logano and Kyle Busch.

It is an open secret that the world of NASCAR is deeply entrenched in rivalries. Drivers, even teammates, often find themselves at loggerheads. They do not shy away from engaging in a fierce battle, which oftentimes escalates into a physical altercation. Nevertheless, it is this rivalry that has created the sport’s dynamic and set it apart from other forms of sports.

Nevertheless, speaking of rivalries, one such case is Joey Logano and Kyle Busch. Both of the two active drivers have more than one championship to their name; however, both of these two drivers are found in two different spheres and do not see eye-to-eye. Their rivalry reached its zenith in 2017 after the race in Las Vegas, when both drivers were embroiled in an altercation and Busch was left with a bleeding forehead.

However, there have been instances in the past, when both Busch and Logano were wrecking incidents. One was at Kansas Speedway back in 2013. Busch who was then a driver at Joe Gibbs Racing spun out at Turn 4 of the track at Lap 104 and slowly careened toward the apron of the track.

As a result, Logano who was approaching the turn collided head-on with the No.18 Toyota car of Busch. Both the cars sustained heavy damages and were completely mangled forcing them to return to their pit lane and call it a day.

It’s already been ten years since the incident occurred at Kansas Speedway, as the track prepares to host its second race of the season.

Nevertheless, after averting a major disaster, Busch expressed in his post-race interview, “Spun out twice, all on our own. Don’t know what to do with Kansas. Absolutely no grip for me anyway, but you’re running third and doing fine. The car’s a little tight and you spin out. I don’t know what to do with that, we’re back in traffic all day. The traffic’s way worse, just trying to get up to the front, making some gains. The car just snaps out on me in every corner.”

While Team Penske’s Logano asserted that it was nearly impossible to avoid crashing with Busch. He affirmed, “I committed to gunning it to get by him on the bottom, and he came across us. At that point, you’re just lined up to him and hit him a ton. I’m fine.”
