Dale Earnhardt is one of the greatest drivers to grace stock car racing. Being a seven-time Cup Series champion, his aura and success in the sport is comparable to none. He was recognized for his undying aggression and explosive racing brand in his days of racing on the asphalt. However, off the track, he seemed like a different personality altogether.

In a recent episode of the Dale Jr Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr. dived deep into his late father’s life alongside his old and close friend. Following the conversation between the two, footage of Earnhardt Sr enjoying one of his lesser-known experiences in the lap of nature has resurfaced, showing the two friends’ deep bond.

Hank Parker is one of the best fishermen the country has ever produced. As the proverb goes, like attracts like. So naturally, Parker became a close acquaintance of Dale Earnhardt, one of the best drivers the country has produced. The collaboration of two completely different domains was a great friendship remembered even years after Earnhardt’s unfortunate death.

Parker has an affinity for showcasing his moments of happiness, doing what he loves doing the most. His YouTube channel, Hank Parker’s Outdoor Magazine, is a goldmine of such moments. In one of the uploads, Hank and Dale Sr are seen spending some happy time together on a canoe, fishing peacefully.

As Earnhardt watches Parker get a big catch on his hook, Hank claims, “He’s so wrapped up I don’t know. Look at that fish. He’s a nice one. C’mon, get him.”

Dale admires Hank’s skills with the fishing rod, which earned him two Bassmaster Classic wins as he praises him. “Now you, buddy, can all brush out a lake, huh? Did I tell you this fish is trying to stick it? Well, I was hoping we would catch him really.”

Parker then lends out some golden advice to the NASCAR stalwart, which would help him get better at fishing, saying, “When you get older the more experience you gain.” to which Dale replies with some more praise.

“When I get to be the fishing man that you are I’ll be alright huh?”

Just two great friends helping each other out with catching some fish in their time together is certainly a great sight to the eyes.

Speaking to his late friend’s son Dale Earnhardt Jr, Parker took a trip down memory lane recollecting the characteristics of his best friend. Junior on the other hand felt a bit of moisture in his eyes, as he was reminded of his dad and also came to know of a side of his father’s that he never knew of. Talking about what made ‘The Intimidator’ different from other people, he said:

I knew a lot about him that a lot of people never ever knew. And he was a cool guy… he was different than what people perceive him to be because his reputation was so powerful and so big that you tend to overlook who the guy was within that uniform.”

Having been with the legendary driver since his days of struggle, Parker understood what Earnhardt had gone through in order to achieve what he had in his life. Revealing an underrated aspect of Dale Sr, he revealed:

“Let me tell you something about your dad. He was hard. He grew up hard. He didn’t have an education and he was embarrassed by that and he would never talk about that but he was the smartest individual I’ve ever known. Smartest businessman I’ve ever known.”

It’s lovely to know about a side of one of the greatest drivers to have driven in NASCAR, especially when it redefines everyone’s thoughts about him as a terrifying personality.
