Coy Gibbs was also the father of this year’s Xfinity Series Champion, Ty Gibbs and the worst thing was that Ty had just been crowned the champion a night before his father passed away.
NASCAR fans react to an emotional picture of Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin
The news of Coy Gibbs passing away in his sleep just a day after his son achieved such a great achievement descended amongst the people getting ready to race on Sunday morning at Phoenix Raceway for the final race of the season. The atmosphere turned mournful and the absence was clearly felt.
Coy Gibbs’s loss was the second time Joe Gibbs lost a son. Coy had taken active reigns after the tragic passing of JD Gibbs. However, no one had expected life to take such a tragic turn, that too after a piece of cheerful news just a day prior. Fans were left mournful too, as they mentioned the tragic beginning to the day when the iconic duo of Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were already racing for the final time together as teammates.
It's going to be strange seeing my two favorite drivers on different teams next year. https://t.co/yrxOBUoJDq

Feel so bad for Coach Gibbs. Can't imagine losing a son. Needless to say two sons. https://t.co/ZoK3mEDi7o

Somber beginning to a day that was already to be the last these two would share as teammates. Over the last 15 years these two have won an awful lot collaborating https://t.co/ZSRNdVAtuk

106 of those 200 JGR wins have come from those two men right there. JGR has had a lot of greats, but those two have put JGR on another level.
