Talladega Superspeedway has a reputation for instigating wrecks more often than not. Many drivers have been lucky to survive crashes in the high-intensity race in Alabama including the dashing Kyle Busch. Over the years, Busch has been involved in some serious wrecks. However, none have been as intense as the one at Talladega in 2007.

Having been in NASCAR for over two decades, Rowdy has seen the highs and lows in the competition. While winning two Cup Series championships brought great joy, his crash at Talladega certainly raised a lot of concerns back then.

In the early years of the 20th century, Kyle Busch marked his presence in NASCAR. Having started through the lower leagues, he was an impressive driver from the very onset. With his Xfinity Series ventures, Busch was gaining a lot of popularity. At that moment, Rowdy was a Hendrick Motorsports driver, driving the #5 Chevy. While he had an impressive start to his 2007 Busch Series campaign with four top-five finishes in seven races, the race at Talladega turned out to be a nightmare for him and Rick Hendrick.

In lap 27 of the 117-lap race, Busch was running second as he planned a move past Kasey Kahne to take the lead. However, Cup Series starlet Tony Stewart, who was behind Rowdy appeared to hit his car. Unfortunately, Casey Mears’ car too dashed into him as the #5 turned across the track and into the wall.

As the car hit the outside barrier, it skidded on its roof down the bank and onto the grass infield. What happened next was astonishing. While the car went barrel-rolling and flames were spotted under the hood, luckily for Busch, the car landed on its wheels, allowing him to escape from the cockpit.

Following the exit, he rushed to a waiting ambulance for the mandatory visit to the infield medical center. The Nevada-born driver later explained the minute details of what he went through during the crash.

It is no secret that since the 2007 crash at Talladega, Kyle Busch has been involved in plenty of wrecks. However, the intense visuals of the accident show how devastating it could have all turned out to be. Back then, Busch spoke to ESPN about the crash.

He said, “I’ve been in some pretty bad wrecks, but that was the first time I ever got upside down or anything. It wasn’t fun. It wasn’t too terribly bad when I was on the roof going down the straightaway, but when it headed toward the grass I planned for the worst.”

“I flipped my visor open and put my hands in my helmet to grab on, then I tucked down and got in the fetal position and planned for the worst. I just wanted to support my head as best I could for when it started flipping.” Fortunately, he survived the crash with no injuries.
