Kyle Busch is one of the few drivers left in NASCAR who truly speak their mind with no filters. This is a characteristic that reflects a person’s honesty, which can also sometimes lead one into trouble. And nowadays, Busch usually gets on the wrong side of things because of his outspoken nature. But there was a time when he was unrecognizably funny while staying true to himself.
One such throwback incident is from the time when ‘The Candyman’ was only 21-years-old, coming off of a Rookie of the Year award and finishing 10th in his second NASCAR season.
During the annual awards, he recognized the contribution of his family in his success – “Family to me means everything.”

And then, he began thanking them one by one except for one minor mistake. He said, “So first of, I’d like to start by thanking my mom, my dad, my grandmother, Kurt and my girlfriend, Eva….Erica, sorry,” as the crowd burst into laughter.
“Sorry honey, Erica.”
The thing is, Eva was the name of his brother, Kurt Busch’s wife at that time. And the younger Busch had an interesting anecdote to throw into the mix of things.
“Best part about that is, my brother at his wedding, the preacher called him Kyle,” he said.
Kyle Busch was in a jolly mood that night
Throughout his time on the stage, Busch was in a mood that may look shocking to younger NASCAR fans today. He congratulated Jimmie Johnson on his first championship as he made a joke.
“I’m sure this won’t be your last,” Prophet Kyle said.
He proceeded to cheekily comment on his own accomplishment in his second year of NASCAR. Busch said, “Worst of the best, that’s what I gotta say, 10th place, worst of the best. Next year hopefully, we could be the best of the best.”

He revealed how after their first season, he told his crew chief that next year they would have to finish better. So, they can see the stage better.
“We told each other, next year we’ll need better seats because we can even hardly see the stage.”
As the years rolled by, Kyle Busch’s fun demeanor took a backseat as his accomplishments brought him closer and closer out in front, to the point where now, he is one of the most accomplished drivers in NASCAR.
