Kurt Busch had one of his shortest and worst experiences on a race-track at NASCAR’s Cup Series race at the Dover International Speedway on Saturday. Busch’s race ended after he suffered contact with Erik Jones that sent him for a spin and into the wall.

Jones, driving the No. 20 car, was right behind Kurt Busch as the two drivers came off the turn. Jones then hit Busch from behind, and Busch lost all control over his No.1 car.

This marked the Busch’s worst result this season after he finished in 33rd at the Daytona International Speedway in the third race of the season.

Bad day for Kurt Busch at Dover

The aftermath of the incident impacted both Alex Bowman and Jones’ cars. The episode brought out an early caution. Following the race, Busch exclaimed that he was unable to get a feel of the car after the incident. This also leaves him under-prepared for Sunday’s race compared to his competitors.

“What an unfortunate way to have our day end on Lap 6. Way too early to be racing like that. We didn’t even have a chance to get a feel for the car,” Busch said after the race.

“Just disappointing for all of the guys that work so hard, especially on the doubleheader weekends like this. Hopefully, we can turn our luck around tomorrow and have a strong run for the GEARWRENCH Chevy,” he added.

Erik Jones was apologetic and admitted to his mistake. At the same time, Jones said that the incident affected him as well, citing the alterations he had to make to his car that critically affected his balance.

First off, I want to apologize to Kurt (Busch) and the whole 1 team. I got into him on lap 1 or 2. That’s my mistake. I got tight and it ended their day really quick.

“I feel bad. I’ve raced with Kurt now awhile, and we have never had an issue and raced really well, so I want to say sorry to him first,” Jones said after the race.
