Any NASCAR fan, a real one, will tell you one thing very confidently: “There’s no one like Jeff Gordon”. The former Hendrick driver was not only one of the most talented and successful drivers in the history of the sport, but he was also one of the coolest.

Gordon brought a new generation of fans to the sport with his charm, his style, and his personality, all those things that made him cool.

However, the four-time Cup champion was also ‘cool’ in the literal sense of the word. He had incredible composure, grit, and patience (except for a few exceptions).

One of the displays of his cool came during the Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2011.

Before the race, Kurt Busch had a pretty massive outburst at Jamie Little when she approached the Team Penske driver with a question. “Why the f**k do you think I would be OK? I gotta go get in my car. NASCAR told me I gotta get in my car,” Busch yelled.

This led to many crew chiefs letting their drivers know to watch out for Busch as he seemed to be on the edge, running a little high on temperature even before the race began.

So when Gordon’s crew chief told him what happened, all Gordon had to say was, Oh, that’s cool.”

However, he did mention that he would be doing “a little simulator” work for Hendrick Motorsports.

Gordon added that the Le Mans program is something that would be exciting, something he wants to be a part of. “We are a part of it with Hendrick, but I just don’t know if I’ll be able to get behind the wheel and drive it in that race,” he said.
