Watch: Hailie Deegan Go Gaga Over Her Wild Ride in a Rare Ford

No car in American automotive history comes close to the iconic status of the Ford GT40. A car built by Ford after Ferrari rejected their move to purchase Ferrari’s financially struggling racing team along with its manufacturing business back in the 1960s, the GT40 helped Americans fulfill a lifelong dream of taking the top step at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GT40 helped Ford cement its name not just in the automotive space but also in the world of motorsport.

“There’s a point at 7,000 RPMs where everything fades. The machine becomes weightless. It disappears. All that’s left, a body moving through space, and time.” was the opening quote from Carroll Shelby’s monologue in the film Ford vs Ferrari. And Hailie Deegan just got to experience why that quote is so popular in connection with the iconic Ford when she took a spin in a beautifully restored GT40 Mark 2 on her YouTube Channel!

Hailie Deegan goes nuts over a classic racecar collection

In her latest YouTube video, Hailie Deegan visited one of her close friend Miller’s bosses, Vinny ‘VINGIGGS’, who is an experienced pilot, veteran, and car connoisseur, to check out some of his most beloved possessions. Amongst the star-studded garage lay two GT40s, out of which one was a 66 Mark 2 and a 1965 Mark 1. While the Mark 2 had distinctive side scoops on both side panels, the Mark 1 featured a classic dark gray paint scheme with a more comfortable Alcantara interior.

While Hailie Deegan couldn’t stop drooling over the iconic engineering marvels sitting right in front of her, one question plagued her mind instantly: “Where do you even buy cars like this?” This prompted Vinny Vingiggs to reveal that these restored GT40s were built by Super Performance. “You have the original cars, there’s like a 100 of them. And then Super Performance builds a real modern GT40. So these get assigned a chassis number in line with the original cars and they go in the historic GT40 registry.”

Vinny also went into great detail about the origins of both cars, sharing that the GT40 MK2 was actually the 15th car built by Super Performance and was personally signed by Carroll Shelby, who witnessed the car in all its glory before passing away. Talk about an official stamp of approval! Amongst other icons sitting in his garage, there were a few Ford Mustang 1969 Mach 1s, and a Porsche 365 Speedstee was also tucked into the corner on one of the lifts.

As soon as the legendary GT40 started up, Deegan was overjoyed by the raw rumble of the Ford V8 that shook Vinny’s head as he leaned out the driver’s window. Once inside and on the go, it was as if Hailie Deegan was a kid lost in a candy shop! Wasting no time on their short drive together, Vinny shared a hilarious moment when a police officer joined him in the GT40 to do some pulls over a bridge, giving the cop the exhilarating experience of a lifetime!

Before Hailie Deegan could collect her thoughts, Vinny pinned the GT40 as it harmoniously shifted through the gears at 6,000 RPM, with the pair being pushed far back into their seats after each gear change as the torque built back up. Just at the end of their last pull, Deegan exclaimed, “I would get into so much trouble in this car!” and that’s exactly what she did once she was behind the wheel!

After she got a feel for the transmission and the shifting points, Deegan floored the GT40 until the pair crossed the line between enjoyment and danger! Reflecting on the fact that race cars nowadays have no power steering, Hailie Deegan was both taken aback and impressed by how raw and natural the GT40’s feedback is, both on the throttle and the steering. At the end of an eventful day, Hailie Deegan also helped Vinny and the crew give the GT40 a mighty push into the garage.
