Back in 1989, NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine had a scary accident. On lap 89, his tire blew up spectacularly and pitched his car into a 360° spin. Then, the #5 car proceeded to bury itself nose-first into the barrier. The good news was that Bodine was unhurt and was able to clamber out of the car.
What made this crash scary was the fact that not only did the tire burst, but it also blew up the brakes. So, poor old Bodine was helpless and crashed heavily. In the end, he was classified 21st and ultimately finished the year in 9th place. On the bright side, he redeemed himself by finishing 2nd in the following year and winning the 1996 edition of the race.

As it happened, the 1996 win was just one of 18 career wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. Bodine made his Cup Series debut all the way back in 1979, with his full-time debut coming in 1982. Two years later, he bagged his first win during the 1984 Sovran Bank 500 at the Martinsville Speedway.
How has Geoff Bodine performed in his career?
In the same year, Bodine clinched victories at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and the Riverside International Raceway. He followed it up with his first Daytona 500 triumph in 1986, with a win at Dover in the same year. Since then, he enjoyed three wins each at Pocono, North Wilkesboro, and at Martinsville.
