Daniel Suárez knows how to entertain, whether behind the wheel or in a wrestling ring. Back in 2019, WWE legend Rey Mysterio introduced him to an event with an electrifying welcome. “Hello, everyone! Today, you get to see one of the most acrobatic, skilled wrestlers of all time!” Before the crowd could react, Suárez jumped in with a quick-witted response. “And Rey Mysterio also!” The moment had fans laughing and cheering.

Fast forward to 2025, and Suárez found himself back in the wrestling spotlight. But this time, he wasn’t just standing on the stage; he wrestled with his fellow drivers like Ryan Blaney. The arena was in Suárez’s homeland i.e., Mexico City. As NASCAR prepared for its historic return to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Suárez, Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Christopher Bell took the city by storm. What started as a promotional tour quickly turned into a night of high-flying action—both on and off the racetrack.

The excitement peaked when Ryan Blaney and Daniel Suárez stepped into the Lucha Libre ring. Wearing traditional luchador masks, the two NASCAR stars embraced the spirit of Mexico’s most iconic sport. But Suárez didn’t just pose for pictures as he climbed the ropes, ready to put on a show. The Trackhouse Racing driver leaped from the middle rope and delivered a body slam to Blaney, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

NASCAR shared the video of their ‘wrestling’, which is going viral on social media. Notably, Luchadors joined the Cup Series stars in the ring, posing for pictures and embracing the crossover between racing and wrestling. Fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing. A user said, “Not everyone has the opportunity to step into the sacred ring of the Arena México, the cathedral of Lucha Libre.” The statement highlighted how special the moment truly was. Arena México is a legendary venue, and seeing NASCAR stars in that space was something few had expected.

Notably, before their wrestling adventure, the four Cup Series drivers toured Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Riding in golf carts, they inspected the course layout, noting the modifications NASCAR had planned. The track had changed since its last NASCAR event in 2008, with new adjustments designed specifically for stock car racing. The NASCAR will conduct its first-ever international point race at the venue in June.

Daniel Suárez, the only Mexican driver in the Cup Series, was visibly emotional about racing in his home country. He recalled winning his first NASCAR Mexico Series race at this very track and emphasized how much it meant to return. “I feel like you are coming to my house for the very first time,” he said. Ryan Blaney also expressed his excitement about the upcoming event. “I had super high hopes before we even got here, and being here and seeing it all got me even more excited to come back and race,” he said.

Wrestling, Tacos and Racing – A perfect combination for entertainment

NASCAR’s spectacle had social media buzzing. Many fans loved seeing NASCAR drivers in the wrestling ring. Some wished they had appeared on WWE’s Monday Night Raw instead. One fan joked, “Guys should’ve gone with William Byron on Raw last week!” Notably, after winning the Daytona 500 event, Willaim Byron made an appearance on Monday Night Raw. He joined WWE star AJ Styles as he handed him a special WWE title.

Some other fans had fun imagining new matchups. “Invite Stenhouse and Kyle Busch, hahaha or Dani and McDowell!” Notably, Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have had their fair share of wrestling at the 2024 All-Star event. After an on-track crash, Stenhouse Jr. waited for Busch outside his hauler. And as soon as Busch reached him, he launched a few punches at him before his father joined in the scuffle. We’re sure if that fight gets set up, NASCAR fans will line up to purchase tickets for this epic encounter.

Meanwhile, Mexican fans were very excited as NASCAR made some unexpected appearances during their visit. “Since there are no two in Mexico, I hope the people support them when they go to Mexico for NASCAR,” a user said. The Mexico City race will be NASCAR’s first points race outside the USA. Strong fan support could lead to more international events.

It has to be noted that NASCAR drivers are being awarded bonuses for their contribution to promoting the sport. The Driver Ambassador program is expected to generate extra bucks for the drivers whenever they go above and beyond in putting NASCAR in a good light. According to a report by SBJ states that drivers receive one point for every 15 minutes. Moreover, a national television appearance earns four points in an hour. The top performer is expected to receive $1 million and even the least performing driver will take him $7,500. Reacting to Suarez and Blaney’s theatrics, this fan couldn’t help but add, “That driver ambassador program got my boys acting a fool.”

Well, it is indeed a win-win scenario for the driver. Apart from racking race wins they now have an additional source of revenue. All they need to do is represent the sport that they are passionate about, nothing wrong in that.
